Rialians On Earth, synonymous with culture-blending musical innovation, has been a dynamic force in the industry for over a decade. As a skilled DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, his journey in the music world is a testament to his ability to blend different cultural elements into a cohesive and engaging sound. The album starts with a techy and grooving after-hours tune that sets the stage and base level of the album as a whole. 

The standard tech, after-hours plucks, has become incredibly popular. Yet, Rialians on Earth pulls them off with a sense of originality, whereas many other producers sound redundant. Rialian on Earth’s adept and nuanced touch is most evident throughout the track’s central groove, once the complimentary and melodic plucks are added, and the atmospheric pads and vocals fill out the space in a texturally dense track with a tight and focused groove.

Hana

The world and ethnic influences on which both Rialians on Earth and his label, Cafe De Anatolia, have built their reputation are on full display during the album’s second track. From the first bar, Middle Eastern string and wind instruments drift and sway in and out of the mix, keeping the minimal percussions and groove alive. As the track works through its arrangement, ambient vocal samples help keep that off-grid atmosphere alive, turning a straightforward groove into a living, breathing work of art. 

Tefida

The third track is far more of a journey than any other song on the album, and yet it doesn’t seem plagued with overcomplication, so many different producers rely on it to make a track this lengthy work. What I mean by that is that Rialians on Earth has chosen a few tasteful and enthralling musical layers to include in this song and uses each and everyone to their full effect to create a cohesive, minimal, and compelling story from start to finish. 

Whether watching the vocal lines change and shift with reverb and delays or the atmospheres become larger and more consuming, every bar uses the ideal amount of elements to build a larger world for you to get lost in.

Zumbula

The tempo and energy created throughout the initial 1/3 of the album is kicked into overdrive with ‘Zumbula,’ as the vibe and aesthetic of the record quickly go from easy listening and ambiance-driven to driving and club-centric. The same rhythmic plucks underpinning the album’s opening come back with new energy, grit, and punch. 

The tighter arrangement also means that the momentum of the track continues an upward trajectory and ominous charge mirrored by the distant and unsettling vocals that spice up the atmospheric backgrounds of the track. Even the breakdown leaves little chance to reset the energy as a syncopated guitar pluck hammers away, keeping the groove and drive alive even during the calmest sections of the tune.

Tebe

‘Tebe’ sees a shift away from the heavily world-influenced music of the front half of the album and to a more melodic, progressive vibe that hits on all the hallmarks of the genre. Pulsing arps, FX sweeps, and detailed vocal lines help keep the driving groove feeling fresh and new.

The real A-HA moment is when the groovy, deep bassline takes center stage around the 2:15 minute mark. While the bass is familiar to the track already, the newfound focus on the stripped-back groove is an abrupt energy shift that works like a charm. Once the track has shifted its gears to this low-moving bass, new unsettling and dissonant synths, and instruments are introduced to keep that minimal, dark, and vibey groove alive.

2001

The club-centric energy isn’t going anywhere, as evident through the track ‘2001.’ Cafe De Anatolia is arguably the biggest label in the industry, focusing on strictly organic house music, which many think would pidgeon hole them into only releasing downtempo music for cafes and dayparties. But this track’s driving bass and rolling percussions show that organic house music’s aesthetic has just as much club viability as conventional genres like progressive and deep house. 

Rialian’s world and ethnic influences pockmark the track and keep the track rooted in his signature sound, but this track alone shows how diverse the genre can be.

Baba Gjurgja

As the album begins to work its way to its close, the momentum shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, ‘Baba Gjurgja’ cranks up the energy to 11 with its growling synths and repetitious arp lines that goad you into their enchantments. 

As is the standard with progressive genres like this, new layers and instrumentation are introduced slowly throughout the arrangement to ramp up the energy levels and enhance the groove. 

Oro

The album’s final track brings us home with a light, drifting, and vibey track that is about as anthemic as you could ask this genre to be. It’s the perfect closing to the album overall and brings a sense of finality to the work overall. It’s the ideal sunrise set track, filled with blissful melodies and light percussions that bring a sense of freedom and fulfillment.

As an added easter egg, longtime dance music fans may recognize the short vocal sample from another popular song released about a decade ago! It’s always a fun discovery to hear samples and snippets of other songs in completley new contexts and see how two different producers can take a sound in entirely different directions just off their own creativity.
