Neural DSP has introduced Darkglass Ultimate, a new bass-focused plugin that consolidates amp modeling, effects, and utility tools into a single environment. The release builds on the earlier Darkglass Ultra concept, expanding it into a full signal chain designed for producers who want to move from initial idea to finished tone without leaving one interface.

At the center of the plugin are two established preamp circuits. The B7K Ultra provides a tighter, more aggressive drive structure with controlled low-end response, while the Vintage Ultra leans toward a warmer, more rounded tone shaped by classic amplification approaches.

The ability to switch between or blend these two gives producers a wide tonal range without additional plugins.

Full signal chain inside one plugin

Darkglass Ultimate extends beyond amp modeling by including both pre and post effects. Before the amp stage, users have access to compression, auto-wah, octaver, and fuzz. After the amp, chorus and delay handle spatial and modulation-based processing. This structure mirrors a traditional bass signal chain but keeps everything contained within a single plugin window.

Cabinet simulation is handled through two Darkglass models, with flexible microphone positioning and additional controls for shaping low-end response and high-frequency detail. A 9-band graphic EQ provides further control, allowing producers to fine-tune how the bass sits in a mix without relying on external processing.

Utility tools are also built in. Transpose, tuner, and metronome functions are integrated directly into the plugin, along with a library of curated presets. These additions are practical for both production and writing workflows, especially when moving quickly between ideas.

Launch timing and sale context

The release of Darkglass Ultimate coincides with Neural DSP’s birthday sale, which runs through early May. During this period, all plugins, including this new release, are discounted by up to 50 percent.

This pricing window positions the plugin as both a new product launch and an entry point for users looking to expand their setup. A 14-day trial is also available, allowing producers to test the full feature set before committing.

Darkglass Ultimate fits into a broader trend of consolidating multiple production stages into fewer tools. By combining preamps, effects, cabinet simulation, and utilities into one system, it reduces the need to build complex chains across multiple plugins. For producers working with bass-heavy material, that kind of integration can streamline workflow while maintaining control over tone shaping.
