Today Fireblade Software has announced that their upcoming game SENTRY has a free demo available on their Steam page and to celebrate, they’ve released a brand new combat trailer to showcase what you can expect. We’ve been following the progress of SENTRY for well over a year and we’re itching to get our hands on it to defend our space turf.
What is SENTRY?
Recently, and a couple other writers were reminiscing about old multiplayer games we loved and “horde mode” in Gears of War as well as “firefight” first introduced in Halo ODST were both brought up as some of the most fun coop experiences we’ve had. We were asking ourselves why more developers don’t explore this coop (or single-player) enemy wave defense genera? Enter SENTRY.
SENTRY is an action-defense first-person shooter where you defend your spaceship against a relentless alien threat. What really intrigues me about SENTRY is that it doesn’t seem to just be about the gunplay, but picking where to make your stand strategically and using traps and environmental destruction to turn the overwhelming odds in your favor.
Setting and Style

While I mentioned Gears of War and Halo earlier, outside the vague gameplay element of “action defense,” it doesn’t look like sentry has much in common with either of those games. I’d say it looks like it draws inspiration from Half-Life more than anything, but with a cel-shaded space-techno twist. The game occurs in a spaceship fleeing across the galaxy after Earth has fallen. As a member of the SENTRY defense program, you are awakened to defend the precious human cargo as they escape.
