Pack your bags because we’re headed to Egypt. Total War: Pharaoh is the latest entry in the Total War franchise and we have an inclination that the sands may turn a shade of red this fall.

In case you didn’t already know, the Total War series is renown for huge battles between warring factions alongside civilization management and diplomatic negotiations. If you’ve enjoyed the turn-based nature of Civilization, the real-time action of Age of Empires, or everything in-between with Mount and Blade, you’ve come to the right place. Total War: Pharaoh will be the next big strategy game on your radar for this year.

Total War games have taken place in a handful of different settings but have yet to see the pyramids until now.

“There are few periods more iconic than Ancient Egypt; fraught with political intrigue, cataclysmic events and grand war campaigns, it’s the perfect setting for a Total War title,” said Game Director, Todor Nikolov. “As Pharaoh, you must save Egypt from the cusp of destruction and guide your people through the calamitous Bronze-Age collapse. It is up to you to either survive or fade into history.”

With the ‘perfect’ setting for a Total War title comes eight playable factions that make up three diverse cultures that includes Egyptians, Canaanites, and Hittites. Dynamic battles will make their return as a Total War staple alongside sandstorms, thunderstorms, and other environmental hazards. The newest addition to the franchise is a campaign customization feature that will allow players to tweak the experience to one’s liking.
