Eternal Research is bringing its Demon Box to Los Angeles for a live, in-person demonstration at Perfect Circuit, offering a direct look at how electromagnetic signals can be captured and translated into usable musical information.
The event takes place on April 11 and is open to the public, with attendees able to interact directly with the instrument and the team behind it.
The Demon Box operates by scanning electromagnetic activity from everyday environments and converting those signals into audio, MIDI, and control voltage. That process turns devices, wiring, and surrounding electrical systems into active sound sources, creating a workflow that sits outside traditional synthesis and sampling methods.
Instead of starting with oscillators or recorded material, the instrument builds sound from constantly shifting environmental data.

Turning electromagnetic activity into playable signal
At the core of the Demon Box is a system that detects electromagnetic fields and converts them into structured output. These signals can then be routed into a studio setup as audio or used to control other gear through MIDI and CV. This opens up a different type of interaction, where the performer responds to a changing signal source instead of relying on static patches or pre-programmed sequences.
In a live setting, that approach introduces variability that cannot be fully predicted. The surrounding environment directly influences the output, which means each session has a different starting point. For producers used to tightly controlled sessions, this creates a different way of thinking about sound generation and control.
The Perfect Circuit event is structured to make that process accessible.
Attendees will be able to test the instrument, observe how signals are captured, and understand how those outputs integrate with existing studio workflows. It also provides an opportunity to speak directly with the creators about the design decisions behind the system.

A different approach to sound design and performance
Eternal Research positions the Demon Box within a broader practice that connects sound design, experimental technology, and performance. The instrument reflects that direction by focusing on interaction with external systems rather than internal signal generation alone.
For producers and artists working across modular, experimental, or hybrid setups, this type of tool expands what can function as a sound source. It also shifts attention toward the physical environment itself, which becomes part of the signal chain.
Perfect Circuit serves as a fitting location for this type of event, given its role as a hub for modular and experimental audio gear. The meet and greet format keeps the focus on direct engagement, with time allocated for both demonstrations and informal discussion.
The event runs from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on April 11 in Burbank and does not require a ticket. For anyone interested in alternative approaches to sound generation or looking to expand their workflow beyond conventional tools, this is a straightforward way to experience a system that operates on a different set of inputs.
Will Vance is a professional music producer who has been involved in the industry for the better part of a decade and has been the managing editor at Magnetic Magazine since mid-2022. In that time period, he has published thousands of articles on music production, industry think pieces and educational articles about the music industry. Over the last decade as a professional music producer, Will Vance has also ran multiple successful and highly respected record labels in the industry, including Where The Heart Is Records as well as having launched a new label with a focus on community through Magnetic Magazine. When not running these labels or producing his own music, Vance is likely writing for other top industry sites like Waves or the Hyperbits Masterclass or working on his upcoming book on mindfulness in music production. On the rare chance he's not thinking about music production, he's probably running a game of Dungeons and Dragons with his friends which he has been the dungeon master for for many years.
