For international EDM DJs, booking agents, and promoters, timing is everything. Whether it’s
locking in a major festival appearance, planning a North American tour, or securing a club
residency, immigration delays can derail even the most carefully coordinated plans.

That’s why many in the music industry opt for Premium Processing when filing U.S. visa
petitions—particularly for O-1B and P-1B visas.

What Is Premium Processing?

Premium Processing is an optional service offered by USCIS that guarantees a
response—approval, denial, or Request for Evidence (RFE)—within 15 business days of receipt.
The current fee is $2,805.00 (as of this writing), and it applies per petition. In contrast, Regular
Processing can take 6.5 to 10.5 months for O-1 and 6 to 12 months for P-1 (as of this writing),
depending on USCIS workload and service center.

Pros of Premium Processing

Speed and Predictability:

The most obvious advantage is speed. With Premium Processing, you avoid lengthy wait times
and gain the ability to book flights, finalize contracts, and announce tours with confidence. For
last-minute bookings or high-pressure performance windows, this can be a game-changer.

Flexibility for Itineraries:

DJs often operate with fluid or evolving schedules. If a last-minute opportunity arises—say, a
surprise festival slot or a new club residency—you can’t afford to wait months for USCIS to act.
Premium Processing helps ensure your visa is ready when your itinerary is.

Communication with USCIS:

Premium Processing provides a dedicated communication channel, including a direct phone line
and email address. This increased access to USCIS makes it easier for attorneys or agents to
address issues quickly and track petition status in real time. If an RFE is issued, it’s done on an
expedited timeline, and responses are processed with the same priority.

Professional Image:

For booking agencies and promoters, using Premium Processing signals professionalism and
reliability. It tells venues, sponsors, and clients that you take your obligations seriously and can
commit to confirmed appearances without uncertainty.

Cons and Considerations

Cost:

The additional fee may not be feasible for every artist, especially newer or independent DJs.
While some promoters or labels may cover the cost, others may not.

It Doesn’t Guarantee Approval:

Faster processing doesn’t mean guaranteed success. If your petition is incomplete or lacks strong
evidence, it may be denied just as quickly as it would under regular timelines.

Not Always Necessary:

If a tour is scheduled far in advance—say, six to nine months out—and there’s no urgency,
regular processing might be sufficient, saving budget for other priorities.

Bottom Line

Premium Processing isn’t required, but for the fast-paced world of EDM bookings and
international tours, it often makes sense. When appearances are tightly scheduled and visas are
time-sensitive, that 15-day turnaround can mean the difference between landing on stage—or
being left behind.
