Creativity and uniqueness in approach, should always be applauded with new releases. Today we hear from one of Europe’s most innovative and creative duos – Shkodra Elekrtonike, the albanian producer-vocalist duo who are taking on a new approach and launching a new album this Autumn.
The new album Passport arrives with considerable momentum behind it. In December 2024 the duo won Festivali i Këngës with “Zjerm” and represented Albania at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, placing eighth — the country’s best result since 2012. That context matters not because Eurovision credibility translates straightforwardly to critical respect, but because it signals something about reach and ambition: a duo who had been building their world through EPs and festival appearances (Live @ Uzina in 2022, shndrit! in 2025) suddenly found themselves making the case for Albanian culture to a continental audience of hundreds of millions. Passport is what they made after that.
The record moves between Albania’s north and south — geographically and musically distinct traditions brought together under the same project. Slow southern dances evolve into synth-pop; northern melodies ride Near Eastern themes and heavy basslines. The entire project has the feel of a drastically unique approach to electronic music, effortlessly and deliberately fighting against norms in production and songwriting.
The fifth and final pre-album single, “Me Dashtë” (“To Love”), is perhaps the most autobiographical track here: a departure song, a narrator running from her village without tears, watching orange sunsets over a lake turn into longing, refusing to slow down because the road never turns back. “Braktisja asht me dashtë,” the refrain insists — leaving is also a way of loving. For a duo who spent most of their lives abroad, this is emigration told from the inside, the cost of going balanced against the necessity of it.
