As he puts forward this considered yet sonically exciting mix, Jacob Colon offers us further insight into the process behind curating the episode, sitting down with us for this exclusive interview to dive into his selections.

Hi Jacob, how’s it going?

I’ve been great! I’m really excited to showcase this throwback theme on my radio show.

To start, can you walk us through your selections for this ‘throwbacks’ episode? How did you approach choosing the tracks for this special mix?

At first, I really just tried to think about all the memorable hooks that I used to dance to and sing back in the day. Some of these tracks are what I call sing-along, so you’ll get an idea of what I mean. For some tracks, I actually had to search and really remember the name because it’s been a while but thanks to the internet, I typed in a couple of lyrics I remember and was able to find it. Other than that, I went through my catalog of music from when I first started using Apple Music and iTunes and was able to see some of the tracks I used to vibe to that way. It was definitely a trip down memory lane, for sure.

Which tracks in this episode hold a personal connection for you? Are there any that bring back particularly memorable moments?

Yeah! In 2016, I got my first record signed to Nervous Records which was a huge deal for me. You’ll have to tune in and see which track that was. It was a huge hit in the clubs which is when I really started to love this House music thing.

When revisiting older tracks, did you rediscover any favourites that stood out to you?

Yeah. I have some classics in there. Like I said before, a lot of sing-along-type songs which made me remember the vibe of the club when these records would come on.

Did revisiting these tracks give you any new ideas for your current or future productions?

It sure did. I was actually thinking, perhaps I could do my own edit to a couple of these.

Did you include any tracks that surprised you in how well they’ve stood the test of time? What makes them still relevant to today’s audience?

It’s all about the vibe. The sound selections and groove are really what have helped these tracks keep their essence, despite the amount of time they’ve been out.

How do you think listeners will react to hearing these throwback selections?

Like I said, it’s a trip down memory lane. I’m happy to showcase this theme on my show. I enjoyed the track selection process very much.

Finally, did you have any challenges narrowing down your selections for the episode, and were there any tracks you regretted having to leave out that you want to share with us now?

I would say all the tracks really have a personal connection with me so I definitely had some that I had to leave out, but I do feel I got the core down to which tracks really meant the most to me. As far as any that I had to leave out, I would’ve loved to play more of my own throwbacks which I was rediscovering and was like “wow I remember putting this track together!”
