UJAM has released DETUNICORN, a free Halloween-themed synthesizer that concentrates on one of the most recognizable sounds in contemporary electronic music: the heavily detuned hypersaw.
The new instrument is designed for producers working in hyperpop, digicore, dance pop, and related styles, with a synthesis engine built around layered sawtooth oscillators and a small collection of sound-shaping controls. The release also has a deadline: UJAM offers just 666 hours to download and activate the plugin before it disappears from the promotion.
UJAM has focused the instrument on a sound producers often spend considerable time programming, especially when they want the exaggerated, heavily processed chords common in modern pop production.
That approach is worth examining because DETUNICORN enters a category where producers already have plenty of options. How DETUNICORN’s Six Synth Controls Work

The six controls are organized around specific aspects of the instrument’s sound.
Unison determines the number of layers used by the instrument. Increasing the layers adds density, while Detune spreads the oscillators to introduce movement and stereo width. Together, these settings shape much of the sound’s character, from comparatively focused synthesizer tones to much wider arrangements.
Sub controls the level of the additional sub-oscillator, letting you increase a patch’s lower-frequency content. This could be particularly relevant when programming leads or chords intended to occupy a large portion of the frequency spectrum, although producers will need to consider how the additional low frequencies interact with existing bass instruments.
Bend introduces an octave-based pitch movement at the beginning of each note. The control changes the decay time of the pitch envelope, allowing producers to move from a short pitch rise to a considerably slower effect. These movements are common in hyperpop and related electronic styles, where frequent pitch changes often define a synthesizer part.
Bite adjusts the high-frequency character of the instrument. Lower settings produce a comparatively restrained tone, while higher settings emphasize the upper frequencies. Finally, Infinity controls a custom reverb designed specifically for DETUNICORN, allowing producers to add spatial depth without setting up an additional effect.
There are a few additional features that deserve attention. The instrument responds to MIDI pitch bend, while the modulation wheel operates a filter that gradually reduces high-frequency content as its position increases. All six primary controls can also be automated inside a compatible DAW or assigned to hardware MIDI controllers using MIDI Learn.
How to Download UJAM DETUNICORN for Free
DETUNICORN launched on October 21, 2026, as a limited-time Halloween release. UJAM is making it available to download and activate for 666 hours, equivalent to 27 days and 18 hours, after which the promotion will end.
The important distinction is that the deadline applies to obtaining and activating the instrument. Once activated within the promotional period, DETUNICORN can continue to be used indefinitely without a subscription or subsequent purchase.
The plugin supports VST2, VST3, AU2, and AAX formats on macOS and Windows, including native Apple silicon compatibility. Officially supported operating systems include Windows 10 and 11 and macOS Big Sur through Tahoe. The minimum specifications include 8 GB of RAM, approximately 300 MB of storage, and an internet connection.
