Karanyi Sounds has released Cloudmax 3, a plugin built around granular processing, modulation, and resonator-based tone shaping. The focus here is not on a single effect category. It brings multiple processes into a single system, allowing producers to shape texture, rhythm, and harmonic content from a single source signal.
Cloudmax 3 runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS and Windows, and it loads into standard DAW workflows without additional routing. The plugin accepts any audio input and reshapes it using a combination of granular engines, modulation, and reverb processing. That includes vocals, drums, guitars, keys, and field recordings.
At the center of the plugin is a four-engine granular core. Each engine processes grains independently, allowing multiple layers of pitch, timing, and density to exist simultaneously. Grain length can be set from short rhythmic fragments to extended sustained textures, and pitch can be controlled in semitones or continuous values.
This structure gives the plugin a wide operational range. It can generate rhythmic patterns from percussive material, extend sustained tones into longer textures, or reshape simple input into complex layered output.

A system built around control and modulation
Cloudmax 3 includes three pitch modes designed to control how grains behave harmonically.
DUAL mode stacks grain layers in octave pairs, SNAP mode locks pitch to defined musical intervals, and FREE mode allows continuous detuning. Each mode supports different use cases depending on whether the goal is harmonic consistency or experimental variation.

Modulation is handled through a designable LFO that can be assigned across multiple parameters. This includes grain length, pitch, filtering, and resonator settings. The same modulation source can control several parameters simultaneously, enabling coordinated movement across the entire signal.
The plugin also includes eight Cloud Models that serve as macro-level configurations. Each model adjusts multiple parameters at once, shaping how grains, modulation, and space interact. These models are designed to provide immediate starting points without requiring full manual setup.
Workflow features aimed at speed
Cloudmax 3 includes a preset browser with tag-based filtering and AI-assisted tagging. Presets can be categorized by attributes such as tonal character or rhythmic behavior, which reduces time spent searching through large libraries. Once saved, presets remain indexed for future sessions.
An unlimited undo and redo system is also included, which tracks all parameter changes across the session. This allows producers to move through different configurations without committing to irreversible decisions.
The interface supports both a macro control view and a full parameter view. The macro layer allows quick adjustments across the entire engine, while the expanded view exposes all underlying controls for detailed editing.

Where It Fits
Cloudmax 3 sits within a category of tools designed for texture generation and sound transformation. The combination of granular processing and resonator shaping puts it in a position to handle both rhythmic manipulation and tonal development.
The plugin is available at an introductory price of $59, with a standard price of $79, and includes a perpetual license with updates through version 1.x. It supports three machine activations and integrates into most major DAWs.
For producers working with layered textures, evolving patterns, or experimental processing, Cloudmax 3 provides a consolidated system that reduces the need for multi-plugin chains while maintaining detailed control over the signal.

Will Vance is a professional music producer who has been involved in the industry for the better part of a decade and has been the managing editor at Magnetic Magazine since mid-2022. In that time period, he has published thousands of articles on music production, industry think pieces and educational articles about the music industry. Over the last decade as a professional music producer, Will Vance has also ran multiple successful and highly respected record labels in the industry, including Where The Heart Is Records as well as having launched a new label with a focus on community through Magnetic Magazine. When not running these labels or producing his own music, Vance is likely writing for other top industry sites like Waves or the Hyperbits Masterclass or working on his upcoming book on mindfulness in music production. On the rare chance he's not thinking about music production, he's probably running a game of Dungeons and Dragons with his friends which he has been the dungeon master for for many years.
