Image Cred: NAMM Show

As NAMM 2026 gets underway, one of the sessions I’m personally prioritizing is the Industry Insights address. This year feels different, and not only because NAMM is marking its 125th anniversary. The framing around this keynote suggests a moment of recalibration for the industry, with less focus on spectacle and more attention on where the business of music is actually headed.

Industry Insights takes place Thursday morning, January 22, at the Anaheim Convention Center, and it is positioned as a central gathering point for thousands of attendees. For me, this session usually sets the tone for the rest of the show, especially when it comes to education, long-term strategy, and how NAMM sees its role evolving for manufacturers, retailers, creators, and educators.

Why This Year’s Industry Insights Feels Worth Showing Up Early For

The keynote will be led by John Mlynczak, and I’m paying close attention to what he plans to announce. NAMM has already signaled that this address will introduce a new slate of resources and initiatives aimed at strengthening its global membership and shaping how the organization supports the music industry through 2026.

From my perspective, that matters more than ever. The last few years have pushed manufacturers, retailers, and artists to rethink distribution, education, and sustainability. An address focused on concrete initiatives rather than broad optimism is exactly what I want to hear in a milestone year like this.

Industry Insights is also framed as a conversation rather than a one-way presentation. Alongside the announcements, the session will include in-depth discussions with industry leaders on the realities shaping today’s business environment, which tends to be where the most useful ideas surface.

The Guest Lineup Reflects a Broader View of the Industry

What also stands out to me is the range of voices joining this year’s Industry Insights conversation. The guest list pulls from media, retail, manufacturing, and global distribution, which mirrors how interconnected the industry has become.

Rick Beato is one of the more visible names on the list, and his inclusion makes sense. His perspective bridges education, content creation, and artist interviews, and he has a direct line to millions of musicians navigating the modern landscape.

On the retail side, Whitney Brown Grisaffi brings experience from independent music retail and long-term involvement with music education organizations. That viewpoint is essential when discussions turn toward local music ecosystems and sustainability.

Manufacturing and global retail are represented by Thomas Ripsam and Hans Thomann. Seeing leaders from companies with such different histories and markets in the same conversation reinforces how global the NAMM audience has become.

A Moment That Looks Back and Forward at the Same Time

This year’s Industry Insights also serves as a reflection point. NAMM is celebrating 125 years of bringing the music industry together and 50 years of partnership with the city of Anaheim. That history matters, but what interests me most is how much emphasis is being placed on future-facing strategy rather than nostalgia.

The 2026 NAMM Show is being positioned as the most expansive yet, with five days of education, concerts, and special events, alongside three days of exhibits and brand activations. Industry Insights feels like the anchor for all of that, a place where context gets set before everyone scatters across the show floor.

If you are attending NAMM this year and care about where the industry is heading rather than just what products are launching, this is one session I would not skip.
