Yamaha has introduced the MODX M Series, a new generation of midrange synthesizers that combine professional-grade sound design with portability and accessibility. Developed as a follow-up to the company’s flagship MONTAGE M line, the MODX M is aimed at working musicians who want expressive control and studio-level power in a compact instrument.

The MODX M Series features three distinct sound engines: AN-X for analog-style synthesis, FM-X for modern frequency modulation, and AWM2 for realistic sampled instruments. Together, they give players access to everything from vintage analog tones to contemporary electronic textures.

MODX M showcases the Yamaha dedication to innovation, accessibility, and passionate music makers who rely on their instruments to be heard. For more information, visit yamaha.io/MODXM.

Designed for Stage and Studio

Yamaha developed the MODX M line based on input from musicians worldwide, focusing on real-world playability and flexibility. The series includes three models—MODX M6 (61-key), MODX M7 (76-key), and MODX M8 (88-key)—each tailored to a different playing style. All models include eight faders, a Super Knob for multi-parameter modulation, and high-resolution control across all interface elements.

The 61- and 76-key versions feature semi-weighted keyboards designed for synthesists and keyboard players, while the 88-key version uses a graded hammer action for pianists seeking a more traditional feel. Priced between $2,199 and $3,099, each model delivers a mix of portability and professional performance that suits both touring musicians and studio producers.

Expanded Creative Integration

A key addition to the MODX M ecosystem is the Expanded Softsynth Plugin (E.S.P.), a free virtual instrument that replicates the MODX M hardware inside a DAW. Expected in early 2026, E.S.P. allows users to create, edit, and perform MODX M patches directly within their production environment. This hybrid approach extends the hardware’s functionality to producers who move between live and studio workflows.

The MODX M’s design continues Yamaha’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship, with a focus on accessibility for musicians of all backgrounds. Its combination of expressive controls, lightweight build, and integrated digital tools makes it one of the most adaptable instruments in Yamaha’s current lineup.
