Hailing from Iceland, Salka Valsdóttir, a seasoned sound engineer, music producer, and performer, is the creative force driving neonme, a true testament to her remarkable expertise.
“premiere” stands as a work of art, a reflection of Valsdóttir’s boundless talents and her ability to push the boundaries of creativity in the world of music and theatre. Known for her outstanding work producing for Daughters of Reykjavik, neonme makes a dent with her own powerful brand of grunge-drive, genre-bending electronic music.
Premiere is a mesmerising journey through a realm of dark sounds and captivating soundscapes, with each track offering a unique sonic experience. The album opens with “Yet Again”, a disconcerting blend of alarming ringing sounds and a pulsating four-to-the-floor kick, immediately setting the tone for what’s to come. “If I Remember” tells the story of a past sexual assault experience, weaving a tapestry of dark and intriguing production elements – pushing the boundaries of sonic creativity. “V” combines soft harp plucks with neonme’s ethereal vocals, infusing a magical cinematic quality with subtle hip-hop elements. “As We Float” seduces with its sultry saxophone, similarly to “Tea” but taking a more Rnb turn, creating a seductive ambiance. Each track is a unique chapter in this sonic journey, offering an immersive and unforgettable experience for the listener.
neonme tells us about her process, “This album is the first piece of music that I write that feels completely true to myself as a musician. It took me a while to figure out who I was as a musician outside of a band as I’ve always had collaborators and created music through a somewhat compromised process. This task, figuring out my sound, was very overwhelming and it took me about four years to create the album from start to finish.
