Knobula, known for its popular Eurorack modules like PolyCinematic and Kickain, is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated Pianophonic module at Machina Bristronica. Scheduled to take place on September 30th, this event is one of the UK’s most prominent synthesizer shows, featuring over 100 exhibitors. During the event, Knobula will demonstrate its complete range of modules, including an exclusive preview of Pianophonic, which will begin shipping to dealers worldwide on October 9.
Pianophonic: A Synth Module Like No Other
The Pianophonic module is a 12 HP wavetable synthesizer inspired by the rich, complex sounds of the piano. Using professionally sampled wavetables and hammer sounds from instruments such as Steinway grand pianos, felt pianos, and even toy pianos (converted into bespoke eurorack synthesizers), the Pianophonic emulates the unique characteristics of three-string piano sound. Users can explore a limitless range of sonic possibilities thanks to the module’s 16 preset sound banks, onboard filters, envelope generators, compressors, and reverb circuits. Moreover, users can save their creations on the included SD card or create their sounds using Knobula’s online Waveslicer software.
The Tech and Connectivity
Pianophonic offers MIDI connectivity, gate I/O, chord select, and volt per octave inputs, making it fully compatible with a broader Eurorack or traditional synth setup. The module boasts 24-bit/48 kHz sampling and adheres to Knobula’s philosophy of delivering focused and innovative modules with ‘knob-per-function’ controls. This ensures ease of use and maximum control during live or studio performances. Each Pianophonic module ships with several sounds on its SD card, which can be further modulated and manipulated through its onboard controls.
