Cannons have been making “baby-making music” for a decade, and now audiences across the US have the opportunity to get out and not only support their local music venues but see what it is that makes Cannons so captivating live.
Prior to the start of the tour, I was able to speak with the band about music, fashion, and upcoming vinyl releases.
How long has the band been working on songs for the new album? Can we expect any new sounds or surprises?
“We’ve been working on the new album Heartbeat Highway since we finished Fever Dream and released that last year. So many life changes and new experiences have happened in that expanse of time that inspired and shaped the songs on this new album. It’s been quite a journey! We had the very talented Rob Kinelski mix this album, who we feel really helped make these songs shine, and had the opportunity to work on a few songs on there with some incredible producers and songwriters, which was a fun and exciting new experience for us.”
MLiR’s remix of ‘Ghost House’ is… phenomenal. And easily one of our top picks for September. This remix brightens up Lis Sarroca‘s original, adding a light, funkiness that transforms the track.
Michelle: Your stage style has evolved quite a bit over the past few years. Are there any designers that are creating the incredible pieces we’ve seen you in recently?
“Yes, we’ve worked with our stylist Lyn Alyson for 2 years now and collaborated with some amazing designers throughout. We’ve worked on many custom pieces with LFVD, Rachelle Appelle, and Angel Brinks. They are all creating some absolutely stunning pieces as we speak for this upcoming tour! Very lucky and grateful to be working with such incredible designers who help bring our Cannons-verse to life!”
Nuage‘s other four on the floor material included on his Pink Television E.P. is this equally sublime production titled, “Glances.”
On the flip-side of Riva Starr‘s chart-topping collaboration with Todd Terry sits this acid-house beast that belongs in the same dignified company as Josh Wink‘s “Higher State of Consciousness.”
Will there be another pressing of Fever Dream on vinyl, and will the new album have an immediate vinyl release?
“Working on that as we speak! TBD.”
What is the band looking forward to most about being back on tour?
“We’re very excited to share some new music!”
And that they did! The band introduced four new songs in their seventeen-song setlist. The audience sang along to the two newest releases and even louder to hits like “Loving You” and “Fire For You”.
Toscana draws you in with a heavy bassline, slowing introducing melodic elements and vocals, hitting the trifecta of deep house fundamentals. ‘Dance All Night’ brings together the light spirit of Jazz and funk with a darker, grungier sound perfect for a warehouse party.
Neverdogs‘ release, ‘Feeling Something’ is an absolute banger and, naturally, had to be included in our top favorites for September. This track is reminiscent of their renowned upbeat and feel-good house and techno sets and is, obviously, a must-listen. The track starts strong and heavy handed (in the best way possible), but the introduction of vocal elements and lighter, airier sounds is what separates this track from the rest.
‘Quarantine Cowboys’ is an actual experience. Daniel Jaeger produced this track with his brother, Valenti, and is Valenti’s first ever release. The track is seductive, in a debauched manner that only grungy deep house music is capable of. It is most definitely a fresh sound and a delightful find for this month’s chart.
