SOMA Laboratory is giving its LYRA-4 synthesizer a splash of color, expanding the palette to include green, pink, orange, and Zanzibar blue alongside the existing black and white models. The Warsaw-based maker of experimental electronic instruments is also introducing a limited-run Rusting SOMA bundle featuring three of its flagship devices: the PULSAR-23, LYRA-8, and COSMOS.
The LYRA-4, reintroduced last autumn, shares much of its DNA with SOMA’s LYRA-8 but comes in a smaller, lighter form. It delivers four voices that can run in electronic organ mode or FM synthesis mode, giving it a wide sonic range that spans both experimental textures and more conventional tones. The expanded color selection gives players more options to match their visual preferences without changing the instrument’s performance or build.
Four Voices, Organic Design

SOMA calls LYRA an “organismic” synthesizer, referencing the way its internal modules interact more like a living system than a traditional synthesizer. Its controls and circuit behavior encourage the kind of unpredictable, interconnected responses you might expect from a conversation rather than a sequence of fixed parameters.
Each of the four voices is built differently from standard voltage-controlled oscillators. Instead of a linear or logarithmic pitch control, they are modeled after the tone generators in vintage electric organs. This design encourages non-linear responses, opening the door for textures and modulations that feel alive and unpredictable. The LYRA-4’s compact design makes it well-suited for live performance, but it can also handle studio work without needing additional effects or processing.
Limited Edition Rusting SOMA Set

The Rusting SOMA bundle moves in a completely different visual direction. Rather than being a new paint color, the housing of each device in the bundle is produced using a unique process that gives it a distinct, oxidized finish. This is not artificial aging but a manufacturing technique designed to create a real metal patina across the devices.
The set includes the PULSAR-23 drum machine, LYRA-8 synthesizer, and COSMOS looper/processor. Each unit in the bundle comes with a matching serial number, making it an appealing option for collectors and fans of SOMA’s design ethos. While the devices are available separately, the bundle’s presentation and uniform finish give it a level of cohesion that standard releases do not.
The LYRA-4 is priced at €360, while the Rusting SOMA bundle comes in at €2,700, with an additional €300 for the Turret version. All new finishes are now shipping, and customers can order through SOMA’s website or its network of authorized dealers.
