iZotope has released Velvet, a next-generation de-esser plugin designed to give music producers more control over vocal clarity without compromising tone. Now available as part of iZotope’s Catalyst Series, Velvet introduces a dual-channel approach that separates sibilant and tonal content—allowing users to independently process each.
It’s built to help clean up harsh sibilance, eliminate unwanted clicks and mouth noises, and shape vocal tone more precisely, all in a single, intuitive interface.
Smarter Vocal Processing with Split-Channel Control
Traditional de-essers often apply broad cuts that can reduce sibilance but dull the vocal in the process. Velvet avoids that by splitting the audio into two channels—sibilant and tonal—so users can target only the problem areas. From there, you can apply focused de-essing, adjust tone shaping with Lift and Tame controls, and transparently remove clicks and pops using a dedicated De-click fader.
Velvet also includes a Sibilance Learn feature that identifies harsh frequencies and sets up intelligent EQ moves automatically. This streamlines the process for producers working on fast-paced sessions or vocal-heavy projects where consistency matters.
The ability to solo each channel or use the delta button to monitor exactly what’s being affected gives users full control over subtle vocal edits.
Part of the iZotope Catalyst Series

Velvet joins Aurora and Plasma in iZotope’s Catalyst Series—an expanding line of task-specific plugins built for speed and ease of use. Instead of the multi-module architecture found in iZotope’s Neutron and Ozone suites, each Catalyst plugin focuses on one job with just the right number of parameters to keep workflow efficient.
Velvet includes 50 professionally designed presets tailored to a wide range of vocal styles, from sung leads to spoken word. It’s a clear step toward making polished vocal edits faster without needing to reach for multiple tools or surgical EQ moves.
Pricing and Availability
iZotope Velvet is available now for $49 USD. A limited-time crossgrade price of $39 is offered to any existing paid iZotope product owners through May 21, 2025.
