The producer and DJ has played alongside Kevin De Vries, Adam Ten, SOEL, Miss Monique and Sebastian Léger, and also hosts a monthly podcast where he shares some of his favorite music, taking the listener on a sonic journey.
Elias Erium has kept the dance floor moving all over the world, and now, he’s back with a bang. Following his transition out of his last moniker, Solid Stone, Erium wanted to get out of his comfort zone and push the limits of the genre. That resulted in his latest project, Echoes, and we sat down with Elias Erium to talk all things Echoes, Solid Stone, Phenomena, and more. Keep reading for the full interview!
Can you tell us more about your upcoming EP ‘Echoes’ and what inspired you to create it?
Certainly! “Echoes” is a 5 track EP that will be created and released under my artist moniker, Elias Erium, which represents the next phase of my music and career. In 2018, I founded my own label, “Phenomena”, under which I’ve been releasing music as Elias Erium, an experimental electronic music artist project with which my main goal is to experiment outside of genre. Prior to this when Phenomena was originally founded, I released music under the artist moniker, Solid Stone – a successful progressive house/trance project that has wielded over 5 million streams and worldwide touring. My decision to leave this artist project behind and begin releasing music under the moniker Elias Erium was driven by a desire to push my own musical comfort zone and break down the barriers of genre within the electronic music space. This EP is the perfect opportunity for one last tribute, blending the past, present and future.
From what you’ve told us, ‘Echoes’ marks a significant transition from Solid Stone to Elias Erium. Can you elaborate on the reasons behind this artistic shift?
For those who may not know, my sound as Solid Stone was initially more trance-oriented. Over the years, I’ve gradually shifted towards a groovier approach. I felt that Solid Stone couldn’t take me where I wanted, or needed to go. So, it was obvious that I had to transition to continue growing freely as an artist without being confined by certain expectations.
What can listeners expect from the EP in terms of its sound and message?
This EP has something for everyone. It bridges the gap between melodic elements, groove, energy, and vibe. Through these five tracks, I aim to convey the musical evolution of my sound from Solid Stone to Elias Erium, but also echo the past sound of Solid Stone, which you’ll hear throughout the EP.
Could you share some insights into the creative process behind ‘Echoes’ and how it reflects the evolution of your music?
Each track was created to represent a specific feeling. It’s through music and sound that I can best convey this message, while leaving it open to the listener’s interpretation. I always start with the main element—the “hook”—and the rest of the track writes itself. The easier it’s produced, the more it was meant to be.
Your label, Phenomena, is celebrating its 5th anniversary. How does this milestone tie into the release of ‘Echoes’ and subsequently, the full EP?
It’s hard to believe it’s been 5 years already! Given this, it felt appropriate to mark the occasion with a landmark project. This EP is the largest we’ve released on the label to date. Each track serves as a symbolic marker, commemorating one of the five years that have passed. The project will metaphorically and literally pass the torch from Solid Stone to Elias Erium by providing an opportunity for the fan base and supporters of Solid Stone to become introduced to the next phase in my musical journey as Elias Erium, while celebrating 5 years of releasing music as part of my self-founded label, Phenomena.
What do you hope listeners will take away from the EP, both in terms of emotions and musical experiences?
My aspiration for this EP is that it offers listeners an intimate experience. I hope that each person who hears it will find their own unique emotional connection and interpretation. This EP should not only serve as a reflection of my artistic journey but also as a gateway for listeners to delve deeper into my evolving musical landscape.
Thank you for your time!
Thank you!
