Mason & The Masonettes’ latest release “Are You Ready” is a soulful disco track that takes listeners on a musical journey through Motown, Studio 54, and late 80s NYC loft parties. The Dutch producer Mason, known for his two-decade-long track record of producing house bangers, collaborated with the all-female vocal trio The Masonettes to create this future classic.
The track is not a typical sample and house loop club record but rather a new house record created from the original multi-track reels of First Choice, which Mason was able to access from Philly Groove Records. Mason’s use of authentic instrumental stems, recorded using vintage techniques, adds to the track’s authenticity and showcases his production prowess – as he explains – “Getting hold of the original parts to an old track like this is gold dust for a producer. Having those authentic, beautifully played strings, horns and dozens of other instrumental stems in their vintage recording techniques made me feel like the proverbial kid in a sweet shop”
The Masonettes’ vocals bring an extra dose of sass to the track, elevating it to new heights. Mason’s respect for the original track is evident in his desire to introduce it to a fresh audience while also bringing it into a new format.
