One mysterious night, Nathan Davis and Tiago Nunez’s lives changed forever as a small ghostly figure appeared from the darkness. The ghost introduced itself as “Hi, I’m Ghost” and shared its mission of becoming a leading act in the bass music scene. The ghostly entity sought producers to help with its plan and quickly gained popularity with its unique and eerie sound.

Specializing in heavy, dark dance music, Hi, I’m Ghost continuously captivates audiences with innovative reinterpretations of bass music classics and original works. Today, they reign supreme as a major player in the dance music industry.

We had a chance to talk with the artist ahead of their massive gig at Portland’s iconic 45 East club about their career trajectory, the new sounds they’re pushing, and what’s on the horizon in 2023.

Why have you recently started wearing the mask? What calculated risks go into a small rebrand like that?

I started wearing the mask because it fits this image and narrative we will be exploring/releasing throughout 2023. The risks are pretty minimal in my opinion, I love how it looks, and the fans have been super receptive to it so far!

Are any new and fresh sounds being released in the future to match the aesthetic change the mask brings to your performance?

I wouldn’t say the “sound” is changing, but there is more of a theme to many of the stuff we have planned for later in 2023. Hi I’m Ghost has always been far more on the heavier side, and with the mask/currently being on tour with Barely Alive, the new sets are more genre diverse and just me playing what I love.

Where have you found success in pushing your sound and vision forward? Has it been in solo releases or more in collaborations with other artists?

We have found the most success doing solo releases by ourselves. Working with labels like Disciple/Subsidia/ etc has been an incredible opportunity. Still, creatively we have thrived doing self-releases due to having full creative control with every aspect of the release.

Have you played in Portland before? What do you know about the city that makes you most stoked to play at the city’s best club, 45 East?

I have played in Portland, but it was a drive-in during 2021. I don’t know much about Portland besides that there is great food! Beyond excited to play at 45 East I’ve heard amazing things from Dj buddies of mine.

What are three things you’re most looking forward to in 2023 (bonus points if one has nothing to do with music).

Being Myself and traveling to New Countries. Hi I’m House debut.
