SoDown has released his new album, Scenes of Consciousness, a deeply personal project that brings his love of cinema, vintage recordings, and musical storytelling together. The album approaches life as a series of scenes unfolding on screen, using familiar samples, spoken dialogue, and sounds from different eras to explore memory, change, and the human experience. Across the record, SoDown blends his signature bass-heavy production with funk, soul, jazz, piano, and live saxophone, creating an album that feels as much like a cinematic journey as a collection of electronic music.
Its concept takes shape immediately on “Consciousness,” which opens with introspective spoken-word samples, nostalgic piano melodies, and the unmistakable sound of old film rolling through a projector. “Who Knows” follows by placing a soulful vocal sampled from Marion Black’s 1970 recording of the same name inside a groove-heavy dubstep arrangement, while also weaving in dialogue from films spanning multiple decades.
On previously released fan favorite “Gold (Can’t Hold Me Down),” SoDown pulls from Ray Charles’ “I’ve Got a Woman,” N.W.A’s “F*ck tha Police,” Low Profile’s “Funky Song,” and familiar pop culture references, weaving decades of musical history into a distinctly modern bass record. The track even closes with a humorous nod to Austin Powers in Goldmember and the line, “You see, Mr. Powers, I love gold.”
That approach continues across several of the album’s most inventive moments. “L I V I N,” featuring Oddly Eazy, pulls from Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Key Glock, and the cult classic Dazed and Confused before transitioning into festival-ready bass. “In The Night,” meanwhile, channels the nostalgic character of classic doo-wop through a modern bass house framework.
Collaborations with AHEE and Shlump take the cinematic concept in different directions, with “Hit The Rhythm” opening in the atmosphere of a black-and-white 1950s romance film before abruptly shifting into heavy bass house and forward-thinking sound design. “H U M A N” references Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey before unfolding into psychedelic low-end textures.
Finding Meaning Beyond the Music
While the album’s sampling and production choices create a strong nostalgic atmosphere, its underlying message becomes increasingly personal as the tracklist progresses. “Enjoy The Ride (Stay Present),” featuring Steller, encourages listeners to remain connected to the present rather than becoming consumed by distraction or uncertainty. “Won’t You Love,” SoDown’s collaboration with WonkyWilla, combines West Coast hip-hop influences, soul, funk, and dubstep, with a saxophone-driven breakdown that highlights the live instrumentation central to his sound.
“Wanna GetDown” with Capochino also pushes the album into darker territory, combining both artists’ production styles without abandoning the piano and jazz influences threaded throughout the project. The closing track, “Shout It Out (Too Bad You’re Gone),” brings the journey to a reflective conclusion through emotional vocals and a more restrained bass arrangement.
Speaking on the album, SoDown explains, “‘Scenes of Consciousness’ is inspired by the idea of watching our lives like a movie, with each scene representing a different moment in the human experience. Through samples and inspiration drawn from stories in film, the album explores life from the perspective of the observer, telling a story about consciousness, memory, change, and what it means to be human.”
This release coincides with SoDown’s ongoing 25-date North American tour, which will culminate in “The SoDown Picture Show” at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on February 13, 2027. The hometown performance will incorporate live instrumentation, visual storytelling, and a full marching band, extending the cinematic themes of the album into a larger live production.

Raised in upstate New York, I was always a big fan of music but never really listened to electronic music. Within the first month of attending Florida State University and meeting some new friends, I was introduced to the rave scene. After seeing Ekali at my first show, I was instantly hooked. Since then, I have dived into every subgenre of electronic music, picked up DJing, and mixed for clubs and different entertainment events in Tallahassee. Once graduating with degrees in marketing and hospitality, I was hired for a sales position. However, I recently decided to leave my sales job to pursue my dream of working in the music industry. Currently, I run Magnetic Magazine's Melodic Techno Charts, along with my role as a PR and marketing specialist for different artists and labels. Some of my favorite artists are REZZ, Kyle Watson, TOBEHONEST, San Pacho, Josh Baker, HUGEL, ARTBAT, Vintage Culture, Ganja White Night, CamelPhat, Green Velvet, Jungle, Milky Chance, Paco Versailles, Franc Moody, and RÜFUS DU SOL. My favorite festivals are Hulaween (by far), EDC Orlando, and all the different venues during Miami Music Week. Outside of music, I love sports (especially hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, and spike ball), going to the movies, working out, sushi, Chick-fil-A, food in general, and hanging with my dog Maui and my cat Loki. Feel free to reach out to me via my email or on IG, I love expanding my network of friends and business opportunities!
