Who doesn’t love a good mystery? Venice Club is just that! The most we know so far is the group is comprised of well-known Parisian musicians who decided to make some summer-ready tunes and release them via Dave 1 and P-Thugg of Chromeo‘s Juliet Records. The funk is strong on “Freedom”, and Irfane’s vocals are as welcome as ever!
SG Lewis is back with his first new songs since 2021’s Times with the double A-Side “Missing You/Something About Your Love”. “Something About Your Love” is admittedly a love song from Lewis to a lover but also to Daft Punk, whose influence is evident on this track. These songs are yin and yang, the first being the banger and the latter designed to live on your soundtrack for the summer.
AXNÉR is the duo of Londoners Chris Davies and Julia Axnér. “Got The Look” was originally released in December of 2021 and has been given a fresh summer remix by Al Kent for this July’s dancing public. This remix is the feel-good version, and there is no doubt that it’s going to make you feel good every time you hear it!
“Feel Good (Part 1)” is a good old-fashioned disco song. Dexter Jones has brought all of the swagger of a 70s disco track, and thanks to modern production techniques was able to create a tight funk-laden experience. The horns are bright, the congas add a nice layer of rhythm, and the bass ties it all together.
Taken from the EP of the same name, Pecoe‘s “Feel The Vibe” is a great funk/disco escape from our everyday routine and encourages the listener to feel the vibe and get up and dance! The addition of the female vocal over the driving bass of the track softens it up around the edges, while the rhythm guitar drives the overall pace of the track. Check out the full EP on Rare Wiri Records.
Mannheim-based producer, Gorge helps Deepalma celebrate a decade in the biz with this slow-burning he magic he calls, “Sleepless.”
Label head JKriv knows how to make the bass sing and on “Try Again” he brings Brooklyn-based Nick Hanson and Phenomenal Handclap Band onboard to handle the vocal duties on this uplifting track. This track really encapsulates a funky New York vibe and is made brighter with live instruments. Check this out on the Razor N Tape EP Something Else.
Poolside is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of their first album Pacific Standard Time, so what better time to have Roosevelt step in with his excellent remix of the classic Neil Young track “Harvest Moon”? This remix adds a little bounce to the original dream-pop Poolside version and once again proves that classics can be updated without losing the beauty of the original.
“Shake Our Bones” is an all-out funk extravaganza, begging you to get off the couch and into the club! Jean Tonique and warner case have created a track that put the feelings we have all had over the last couple of years and turned them into lyrics we can all get behind. Now, let this music “Shake Your Bones”!
Whether you prefer the original version of Bondax‘s “Fade” or the Never Dull remix, this track will be a part of your summer playlist. The Never Dull version amps up the disco-funk factor and takes a lyric about lost love, sung by SHELLS, and makes it completely danceable.
Pool‘s latest track “Avec Ou Sans Toi” is a delicious slice of yacht disco to help you wind up the waning days of summer. Guest vocalist Emma Hoet helps elevate the lyrics that switch between English and French at just the right times. The track is a bit melancholy, but you will hardly notice that as you sway away to the groove.
Spa In Disco label head Fran Deeper is asking you to keep the summer going on his excellent disco track “Sunglasses”. Let’s face it, even as the seasons change, you will still need your sunglasses, just like you will need this track in your life. The horns are bright and still allow the sexy rhythm guitar and subtle backing congas to shine. The bass line is direct and funky, and will keep you dancing all night long!
Nu-disco favorite Moon Boots is back with a house-laden funk jam “Come Back Around”, featuring the enticing vocals of Cherry Glazerr‘s lead vocalist Clementine Creevy. The lyric teases a former lover to come back, but it also teases the listener to come back to Moon Boots! We can expect the upcoming third album from Moon Boots in early 2023.
Simplicity is key to Harlem Dance Club‘s “Oh No No”. This track has all of the classic disco elements working together to create its magic. The track is deeply funky with its thumping bass line, plucky rhythm guitar, synth-laden strings, hand claps, and some jazz flute for good measure. Turn this one up to 11!
Bonus track time! Jessie Ware surprised us this month with the Stuart Price-produced “Free Yourself”, the first teaser track from her now in-progress new album, also produced by Price. Ware has said she feels a newfound sense of freedom in her music after the success of the 2020 disco masterpiece What’s Your Pleasure? album and this track is an exciting continuation of that journey!
