WonkyWilla has never shown much interest in staying within the established boundaries of bass music. Across his latest project, the four-track Disco Wonk EP, that experimental mindset takes center stage as he transforms years of live development into the first collection of entirely original music from his fan-favorite Disco Wonk series.

Previously represented through SoundCloud edits, flips, and dedicated live sets, Disco Wonk has gradually developed its own identity within the larger WonkyWilla project. Its first official EP pushes that concept further, connecting the sounds of disco and funk with house, indie dance, live instrumentation, and the unpredictable low-end production at the foundation of his music.

Four Tracks Explore the Expanding Disco Wonk Sound

Each record approaches the concept from a different direction. Opener “Disco Mirage” features members of the Strawberry Disco Circus and immediately establishes the project’s wide-ranging musical palette. Sitar strings and orchestral xylophone contribute to an arrangement inspired by the atmosphere of a desert oasis, bringing an unexpected cinematic quality to the EP’s introduction.

“Studio 69” turns toward the dancefloor. Already tested extensively throughout WonkyWilla’s live performances, the track combines funk-driven rhythms and clean percussion with wub-heavy bass progressions. “Funk Room” follows by moving into darker territory, trading the brighter energy of its predecessors for gritty textures and a hypnotic low end.

The Floozies collaboration “Lovin’ You” closes the project by leaning fully into vintage disco and house aesthetics. Built around a timeless vocal topline, the track provides the clearest connection to the dancefloors that initially inspired the broader Disco Wonk concept.

“I ended up creating something that feels like a whole new genre, which I am calling Disco Wonk,” WonkyWilla says. “Disco Wonk music blends live disco elements, catchy melodies, and wonky low-end energy to build a unique sound.”

The EP arrives as WonkyWilla prepares for his recently announced 30-plus-date “Wonking On Sunshine” Tour, continuing a period of significant growth for the project.

Yet the larger significance of “Disco Wonk” lies in what comes next. A dedicated mixtape featuring flips of classic and contemporary artists is planned for later this year, while additional Strawberry Disco Circus performances will continue bringing the concept into live environments.

After years of experimentation on stage and SoundCloud, the Disco Wonk EP gives WonkyWilla’s increasingly distinct sound an official starting point.

Raised in upstate New York, I was always a big fan of music but never really listened to electronic music. Within the first month of attending Florida State University and meeting some new friends, I was introduced to the rave scene. After seeing Ekali at my first show, I was instantly hooked. Since then, I have dived into every subgenre of electronic music, picked up DJing, and mixed for clubs and different entertainment events in Tallahassee. Once graduating with degrees in marketing and hospitality, I was hired for a sales position. However, I recently decided to leave my sales job to pursue my dream of working in the music industry. Currently, I run Magnetic Magazine's Melodic Techno Charts, along with my role as a PR and marketing specialist for different artists and labels. Some of my favorite artists are REZZ, Kyle Watson, TOBEHONEST, San Pacho, Josh Baker, HUGEL, ARTBAT, Vintage Culture, Ganja White Night, CamelPhat, Green Velvet, Jungle, Milky Chance, Paco Versailles, Franc Moody, and RÜFUS DU SOL. My favorite festivals are Hulaween (by far), EDC Orlando, and all the different venues during Miami Music Week. Outside of music, I love sports (especially hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, and spike ball), going to the movies, working out, sushi, Chick-fil-A, food in general, and hanging with my dog Maui and my cat Loki. Feel free to reach out to me via my email or on IG, I love expanding my network of friends and business opportunities!
