The last single before an album has a different job than the early ones. It has to point forward without giving the whole thing away, and it has to make the album feel closer rather than simply adding one more track to the rollout. Monkey Safari’s “Joy” does that by going straight for the part of house that still feels communal when it is done right.

The track is a house record with gospel running through it, but not in the lazy sample-pack sense. The gospel element is not there as decoration. It is the emotional engine. The groove is tight, physical, and built for the part of a set where the room needs lift instead of another darker turn.

That is the clearest thing about “Joy.” It does not treat uplift like a soft idea. It treats uplift like pressure. The rhythm keeps the body locked in, while the gospel feeling opens the record up from the inside. That combination gives the single its purpose. It is not a detour from the dancefloor. It is the dancefloor doing what it has always done when it is at its best: moving people first, then letting the emotion catch up.

Monkey Safari have always understood that balance. I covered their remix of Claptone’s “Beautiful” a while back in my premiere feature on the Monkey Safari remix, and the thread is similar here. They know how to give a record warmth without blunting its club function.

DJ Island Changes the Angle

“Joy” is also notable because Sven Fröhlich steps out under his DJ Island alias here.

That shift is not just a name change. DJ Island moves the track into a more dancefloor-forward register, with a house sensibility that feels rooted in reading rooms and keeping energy moving across longer sets.

That matters because “Joy” does not need to behave like a dramatic album statement to make its point. It can work as a functional club record first, then reveal the emotional charge inside the loop, vocal feeling, and release. That is often where the best house records live. They do not announce the feeling too early. They let the room find it.

The Extended Mix is the version that will likely do the real work for DJs. It gives the track more space to lock in, letting the gospel lift build inside the groove without rushing to the payoff. The Radio Edit keeps the idea tighter, but the larger form is where “Joy” gets to breathe.

That kind of room-first thinking has always been central to house.

In my list of the best house tracks of February 2023, DJ Island appeared in a context where feel and function were working together. “Joy” continues that idea with more brightness and a clearer emotional target.

The Album Lands Next Month

“Joy” arrives as the final single before Monkey Safari’s forthcoming album, due October 30, 2026. That placement gives the track a bit more weight. It is the last piece of the rollout before the larger body of work appears, and it closes the pre-album stretch with something open, direct, and built for motion.

The release comes via Good Vibes From Paradise as GVFP022, with the Extended Mix and Radio Edit making up the tracklist. It is a lean package, but that fits the single. The concept does not need ten versions. It needs one version for the floor and one that gets the idea across faster.

For producers, “Joy” is also a reminder that sample choice, groove design, and emotional intention have to be connected. House records like this can look simple from a distance, but they only work when the vocal lift, drums, low end, and arrangement are all pushing toward the same response.

I talked about the raw building blocks of that kind of work in my piece on deep house sample packs, but “Joy” shows the part that cannot be faked: intent.

Monkey Safari and DJ Island’s “Joy” is out now on Good Vibes From Paradise.
