FSQ, Moniquea, XL Middleton – Feeling Wide (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) [Soul Clap Records]
No one adds space to a song like Prins Thomas, both in the expansive sound he creates and in the spacey synths that take tracks like FSQ, Moniquea, and XL Middleton’s “Feeling Wide” and project them into another dimension. The groove factor is undeniable on the Diskomiks, so lie back and enjoy the ride.
Another Taste feat. Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers – Peace Call [Space Grapes]
I wish all world leaders would listen to the message of “Peace Call”. Dutch funksters Another Taste are bringing the heat with an assist from Arp Frique and The Perpetual Singers, taking us to church, to the club, and back again! You can find this jam on their new album Another Taste II now.
Rikky Disco – Monte Carlo (Andy Bach Remix) [Stockholm Disco Sounds]
On “Monte Carlo”, Rikky Disco vocalist Fanacy’s vocals blend seamlessly into the landscape of Monte Carlo, light and breezy, evoking a better lifestyle. Andy Bach‘s remix adds a little tempo to compound the Disco flavor, and collectively, this track is taking me on a mental vacation!
Bellaire – We Got The Funk feat. Dimitri From Paris [AOC Records]
Bellaire‘s first LP, Born Funky, dropped this April, and trying to choose just one track to cover was nearly impossible! This album features collaborations with Fleur De Mur, Cerrone, and Nic Hanson, but the standout collab for me is “We Got The Funk” with the legendary Dimitri From Paris. This track is a tour de force of Funk, jammed with some stanky bass, congas, and sweet brass. This song is sure to light up your next party!
Kick-OH – Mine Mine Mine [Sundries]
Italy’s Kick-Oh‘s track “Mine Mine Mine” is a slow builder, making you anticipate the Disco groove that is coming your way, and it’s worth the wait! This song feels happy. It has a lightness in the synths that will put a bounce in your step and put you in a better mood for whatever is coming your way.
Kraak & Smaak – Travel Light feat. IVAR (Diogo Strausz Remix) [Boogie Angst]
Kraak & Smaak‘s “Travel Light” was already a track made for the Disco, and Diogo Strausz‘s mix adds a little more space to the track, maintaining the boogie with a bit of Latin flair. This version feels a little more late-night, perhaps something you want to hear while watching the sun rise.
Isaac Indart & Cesar Del Rio – We Love Music [Spa Club]
Sometimes you want to take a break from the dancefloor, but keep the Disco vibes going, and when that happens, I recommend Isaac Indart and Cesar Del Rio‘s “We Love Music.” This track is definitely rooted in Disco, but the tempo is slower and feels mellow, perfect for lounging poolside, or really anywhere!
Lup Ino – Always A Chance (Original Mix) [Boogie Brunch Records]
Lup Ino always has a chance of making the chart, and this April, he did it with “Always A Chance.” This track is a slice of Disco goodness, sure to elevate your mood, and an easy way to fill the dancefloor. The vocal is seductive and makes you take notice. Check this one out on Boogie Brunch Records.
Jay Caruso – Under A Groove [Pina Colada Records]
Jay Caruso‘s “Under A Groove” sounds like an introduction to Summer. The song has a breezy feel that deserves to be played at a yacht party, certainly poolside, or at the very least, on a lounger in your backyard! Hold on for the sax solo that takes you to the end of the song because it’s worth the wait. Grab some sunscreen and get ready to groove!
Arpy Brown & Kapote – The Phunk Biz (Extended Version) [Toy Tonics]
Arpy Brown and Kapote have an album coming called Memento Ludi (Latin for ‘remember to play’), and the first release, “The Phunk Biz,” certainly lives up to its title! This track has an early 80s Boogie vibe, with spacey synths mixed with bumpin’ bass and layered vocals. The total package works, and I can’t wait to hear more!
Beerkan – Tropic Call [Cruise Music]
Beerkan is new to the chart this month, and I am excited to have been introduced to their music! The track “Tropic Call” (cute pun) is straight-up lifestyle music, something that I want playing in the background of any of my activities, making me feel glamorous, even when life isn’t. The strings, horns, vocals, and synths have a gorgeous tropical blend that makes me want to fly away to the south of France A.S.A.P!
Jessie Ware – Freak Me Now (Mirko Donnini Disco Edit) [Mirko Donnini Music]
Mirko Donnini‘s edit of Jessie Ware‘s “Freak Me Now” is a pure party starter. The original track was released a couple of years ago, and I love hearing this version as a companion to Ware’s latest release, Superbloom. Missing is Róisín Murphy in this mix, and that’s okay, as this edit is solely focused on Jessie Ware’s superb vocals. Make this your hype track now!
Superlover – Dance Like That [Superlover Music]
Another welcome new addition to the April chart is Berlin-based Superlover, a Disco/House producer who has remixed everyone from Purple Disco Machine and Claptone to The Shapeshifters and more! “Dance Like That” leans into the Disco side of things and begs you to get on the dancefloor, wherever that may be, and dance like you don’t care who’s watching!
Bushwacka! – Push The Rope [Nervous Records]
You may know Bushwacka! as one half of Layo & Bushwacka!, but “Push The Rope” is a solo outing for this talented musician and producer. Music is only part of the story, though. Matthew B. has a day job as a psychotherapist, and funky Disco music is clearly this artist’s therapy! This track has cool jungle sounds mixed with congas, and a driving rhythm that will make your hips get moving!
Souxsoul & Urs Wiesendanger – Groovin On The Dance Floor [CRMS Records]
Souxsoul and Urs Wiesendanger are the final duo that is new to the chart with their super funky track “Groovin’ On The Dance Floor”. This Disco/Funk jam has some elements of Daytime Disco mixed with plenty of funky vocals and bumpin’ basslines to balance the groove and get you on the dancefloor, which is right where they want you!
