Crackazat promises to bring the funk to summer in 2026

Swedish-based producer and musician Crackazat is charting his most ambitious course yet..

After first sharing the deliciously groovy first single “Pick Me Up” last month, he’s now announcing his fourth album, Sun, set to drop May 15th on Freerange records. To further cement his sound and status as a future godfather of funk, he’s unveiled the second single, “Whatchu Say,” a track that immediately distinguishes itself from his previous club, jazz house style..

“Whatchu Say” is pure, retro-tinged soul, anchored by an infectious, unrelenting piano riff that pulses with a feel-good kinetic energy. The groove pays overt homage to ’80s Brit-Funk and the Latin jazz complexity found in tracks like Tania Maria’s “Come With Me”. Unlike many dance producers, Crackazat centers his own performance, with his distinctive falsetto vocals carrying the main hook and a beautifully constructed bridge that highlights an old-school songwriter sensibility. There’s a real organic, real-life and retro-leaning quality to his music – with an emphasis on the fun. You can tell that the composer actually, genuinely loves the music he’s making.. The track’s organic warmth is bolstered by his own live bass, complemented by a new collaboration with esteemed drummer/producer Tamez Dolev. This foundational precision, rooted in his formal training in jazz composition, ensures the track feels simultaneously wholesome and expertly crafted.

If this single is any indication, Sun will be a major statement. Billed as his most expansive record yet, the LP promises a rich, fluid blend of jazz, house, hip-hop, soul, and funk. This is the sound of an artist stepping fully into his own lane, fusing the warm jazzy chords and quirky melodies critics have previously praised into a vibrant, genre-spanning world.
