The one and only Intr0beatz is back today with “Don’t Be Silly“, a four-track EP just released on Groovence Disc, and its an expertly distilled snapshot of a producer who has spent decades shaping his own language within deep house.

Arsaell Thor Ingvason’s trajectory through Iceland’s underground began in the late ’90s as a hip-hop producer and turntablist, before gradually shifting into the rhythmic architecture of house music. What has remained constant is his instinctive feel for groove: drums with bite, basslines that move with intention, and textures shaped by years of meticulous sampling. His reliance on classic tools (the SP-1200 and MPC 2000XL for example) gives his music its unmistakable character: warm, dusty, and swinging, a sound as physical as it is emotional.

“Don’t Be Silly” captures this aesthetic in sharp focus. It’s an EP built from fragments of jazz, funk, and soul, reassembled into lean, immersive compositions that bridge raw club functionality and melodic introspection. “Move To Create” opens with immediate spark, its chopped Rhodes chords scattering across the beat with the energy of creative impulse. “Biltong Bump” shifts inward, guided by a fluid bassline and drifting synth figures that evoke the quiet introspection of late-night navigation. “It’s Regular” brings a subtle shift in tone (warm, grounded, and conversationa) with Intr0beatz’s own vocal touch adding an understated intimacy. The closing track, “Hold On,” wraps tension, melody, and low-end weight into a single coherent pulse, ending the record on a very strong note.

What makes “Don’t Be Silly” resonate is not its stylistic adherence but its clarity. Intr0beatz continues to refine a sound rooted in soul, rhythm, and lived experience. The result is an EP that feels carefully constructed without losing a sense of life – and it might be his best work so far.
