Chicago-based duo D&S return to Magnetic Magazine Recordings with “Fallin’,” a track that builds on the clean, deliberate production style they’ve been refining over the past year. Their last release with us at Magnetic, “Time & Space,” marked an important step in their development, and “Fallin’” shows how quickly they’re translating that growth into a more defined sound.
The track opens with a tight, stripped-back groove before slowly pulling in the melodic and vocal elements that set it apart. D&S lean on short, processed vocal chops instead of a full topline, treating them as rhythmic hooks that move with the rest of the arrangement. It’s a detail-driven approach that mirrors the duo’s reputation for precise mix work and a clear sense of what belongs in their tracks and what doesn’t.
A Sharper Sound
What makes “Fallin’” work is its balance. The low-end is anchored by a rounded, sidechained bassline that locks perfectly with the kick, while automation on percussion and effects keeps each section evolving.
