The rising French producer Victor Tomasi is back with his new “Democracy“ EP, a three-track statement that bridges the pulse of the club with the soul of live performance. Out now on all streaming platforms, the project marks a bold new chapter for the Paris-based artist, who’s carving out a distinct lane in the ever-evolving world of French house.
Built from the ground up with organic rhythm sections and lush synth textures, this EP trades digital excess for something more tactile – and ultimately, more human. The entire EP was composed in Paris with acoustic drums tracked at Studio M in Montreuil, and every bassline written and recorded on electric bass. The result is a record that moves with intention, warmth, and undeniable groove.
But this isn’t nostalgia bait. This is a forward-facing interpretation of electronic music that pulls from tradition without being bound by it. Think: club music with fingerprints on it.
Tomasi, whose credits include collaborations with Kazam, Larry Houl, and Nomeo, has long championed a hybrid approach, merging classic house patterns with live instrumentation and cinematic flair. “Democracy” distills that vision into its purest form yet: hypnotic, rhythmic, and emotionally resonant. It’s a sonic journey built to move bodies and stir minds.
The title isn’t just an aesthetic choice, either. There’s something deeply democratic in the way these tracks unfold: every element given space, every groove unfolding naturally, no single sound dominating. It’s music in conversation with itself.
Before releasing the EP, Tomasi debuted his solo live show, a can’t-miss machine-and-bass performance, on June 21 at Fête de la Musique (translation: Celebration of Music) in Paris. It was immersive, honest, and full of low-end soul – qualities that he brought into this new EP.
