Ok, this might be a weird assortment, but bear with us here, as these items all tie together nicely in the proper context. During the spring, we love to head to the water and start getting in shape for kayak and stand-up paddle season as ski/boarding season comes to a close. This is our spring training transition to summer sports, and yes, that includes music festivals! So we have a portable red light therapy device to help soothe the muscles, a sleep mask for a great night’s sleep, and a shark deterrent bracelet when we go SUPing in Santa Barbara or So Cal, as we get out there quite a bit. So now it should all make sense on some level! Below are our thoughts on the devices, how we used them, and whether they are worth your time and money.

DNA Vibes – Jazz Band Live ($279)

Red light therapy has been around for a while now, and the science behind it is pretty compelling. That being said, the scientific jury still seems to be out. Several studies are out there, so we encourage you to do your research as well, as there is a lot to process before spending almost $300 on a portable RLT device like the Jazz Band Live.

Cleveland Clinic RLT Study

The DNA Vibes Jazz Band Live is great for people on the move, as it packs up pretty small and is lightweight. It comes with a nice long cord and two straps to keep it in position on various parts of your body (neck, legs, lower back, etc.). Professional and Olympic athletes use the DNA Vibe to reduce stiffness, inflammation, and pain caused by training with several endorsements for the product. So, if it’s good enough for the pros and the Olympians, it will be fantastic for weekend warriors, beer-drinking, and outdoor enthusiasts like us.

We’ve been using Jazz Band Live for about six weeks now, in combination with a solid stretching routine, a theragun-like device, and CBD cream. Our routine ends with a Jazz Band Live session on either the neck or lower back. From our experience so far using the device in different modes, a mix of red, infrared, magnetic, and micro-vibration, we feel better overall, especially in the neck region. So, can we recommend it as part of your routine? That answer is a soft yes, especially if you are suffering from a stiff and sore neck from being at a desk all day.

We have used this tech in physical therapy as well, so that also brings another level of credibility for us. If you have the extra dough and want to add another treatment to your recovery routine, this is about as good as it gets for the money and the functionality.

The Manta Sleep Mask Pro ($79)

We are big fans of Manta sleep masks and have been using Manta Sound mask with integrated speakers for about a year now. We basically have destroyed it with so much use, so we were excited to try the new Pro version. The Manta PRO does what other sleep masks just can’t; it creates a comfortable blackout seal that works all night long and never falls off. The eye cups have an air bubble that helps keep everything sealed and blacked out when you change positions at night. Our most significant problems with other sleep masks are that they just were not effective, comfortable, or sturdy enough to last very long.

The angled design of the Manta PRO’s strap prevents the strap from hitting your ears and features an antislip texture in the back to keep it in place. If you are a hot sleeper, the PRO’s head strap is designed to stay cool with ventilation everywhere and breathable fabric. We noticed a big improvement in breathability over the Manta Sleep we had been using, which we often had to take off in the middle of the night because it was too hot. The mask is easily dialed in to your face and head size, with the adjustable strap and eyecups, you can get everything customized to your liking quite easily.

If you need things to be extra dark, there is no better way to create a total blackout for an incredible night’s sleep. The Manta PRO is also great for quick disco naps, sleeping on planes, or anywhere really. Just slide it on, and it lights out, baby.

Sharkbanz 2 – Wearable Shark Deterent ($128)

For those who love the ocean but are concerned about sharks, there is now an affordable, nonlethal option to safely deter attacks. The Sharkbanz 2 bracelet uses a technology that creates a magnetic field that affects both sharks and stingrays, causing them to immediately turn around when they enter the field cast by the bracelet. See the video below.

The Sharkbanz 2 doesn’t use batteries, so you won’t have to worry about keeping it charged; it’s ready to go anytime and fits comfortably around your wrist or ankle. So, if you are headed out to the ocean to surf, SUP, swim, or frolic, this device gives you peace of mind and a more enjoyable experience. Shark attacks are not that common, but they do happen, and that fear can be enough to ruin your experience in the ocean. The Sharkbanz 2 is the perfect solution to prevent attacks in a way that won’t harm the animals. No, we did not swim with sharks to test this, but the team at Sharkbanz has extensively tested it in some extreme conditions, such as the one below.

Researched, tested, and verified:

Sharkbanz products are the embodiment of almost two decades worth of peer-reviewed scientific research on the use of magnetic technology as an active and effective shark deterrent. Their products have been independently reviewed and verified by university and government groups for their effectiveness.
