In her new EP, “01100001,” NY Producer TANVI takes on a bold exploration of experimental production and genre-blending, showcasing her unique fusion of trip hop, garage, jungle, and electronica. Born in India, raised in California, and now based in NYC, TANVI’s diverse cultural background shines through in her ethereal yet genre-defying sound.
Drawing inspiration from daydreams and her own introspective musings, TANVI crafts layered soundscapes and hazy vocals that create an immersive sonic experience. With a background in computer science, she seamlessly blends elements of dance music, trip-hop, and Bollywood, resulting in a nostalgic yet forward-thinking sound. She explains her songwriting process “I’ve spent so much of my life lonely and lost in my own thoughts. I used to get in trouble in class for daydreaming too much. These songs are really a journey into my mind and are soundscapes to get lost in and daydream to. The title ‘01100001’ means ‘u & i’ in binary and I feel like it’s very fitting for the fragments of love and life I’ve embedded in these daydreams.” – TANVI
The lead single, “Say You Want Me,” sets the tone with dreamy atmospheres and soft vocals reminiscent of acclaimed experimental pop artists. “Gauzz” ventures into ethereal UK garage territory, with glitch-core elements adding depth to the production. The EP’s final track, “Mine,” takes a daring 160bpm, jungle-influenced approach with a tempo switch halfway through, showcasing TANVI’s versatility as a producer.
