Flyana Boss is the firecracker duo that runs on kanekalon tresses and pretty boys’ tears. Lyrically breathtaking and full of spunk, this pair’s strengths are obvious in their latest single: “You Wish.”
The bubblegum hip-hop hit was released on June 16, 2023 alongside a glistening R&B ballad: “Trashboi.” As opposed to its partner, which is sung through, “You Wish” is a rap tune.
And it’s a helluva rap. Bobbi Lanea and Folayan Kunerede—the masterminds behind Flyana Boss—lay down some seriously stanky lines in “You Wish.”
But don’t take our word for it. Read on to witness this pair’s heat for yourself.

Analysis of Flyana Boss’ “You Wish”
Verse 1
From the first thunk of the low piano baseline, the opening verse of “You Wish” is a confident expression of power. The speaker claims status as both a sexual and romantic partner.
Open Carry pussy lethal like I’m Donald Glover
Here, the speaker proceeds to claim that their body is so dangerous that it’s comparable to carrying a weapon. The mention of Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) is likely a reference to Glover’s jarring music video for “This is America,” which commented on police brutality and gun violence.
For more on Childish Gambino, read up on his album 3.15.20 here.
The speaker finishes off the verse by nonchalantly suggesting she might go for a stolen bike ride or perhaps handcuff her audience’s father. Again, it all screams confidence and power.
Verse 2
Power continues to be the name of the game in verse two. The speaker proudly discusses her body, then associates herself to the legendary Nicki Minaj. If that’s not confidence, nothing is.
However, it’s interesting that this Nicki song is from Nicki’s “pop tart era.”
Chorus
The chorus is the crux of it all: a confident proclamation of individuality.
Get like me? Nah you wish
You could never ever ever be that bitch
After spending two verses defining and celebrating themselves, the chorus drives home these speakers’ confidence. They don’t doubt for a second that no one could be like them—not if they wanted to, not if they tried.

Verse 3
In true Machiavellian fashion, Flyana Boss defines their power in the third verse by dismissing God’s power.
Hello, Christ? I’m ’bout to sin again
I said “I love you” to that man but I’m not feeling him
The speaker insincerely calls on Christ. Given the ferocity with which she delivers the line, it’s clear that she doesn’t actually care that she has sinned. Consequently, Flyana Boss dismisses religious ideas of power.
This dismissal becomes doubly effective when it is revealed that the sin was against a man; Flyana Boss pretended to love a man when, really, she didn’t. However, we know her “apology” to God for this sin is insincere. Thus, Flyana reveals she doesn’t care about God nor men.
Yas queen! Dismantle the patriarchy!
In the second half of this verse, Flyana Boss turns inward again as she returns to defining her individuality.
I’m made of sugar, spice, kanekalon, and cinnamon
Me and my bestie are the same like a synonym
In one of the sickest lines of the song, the speaker claims her sweetness, her spiciness, and her hairstyles. She also proudly declares her best friend is on her level. This bestie compliment becomes all the more special when one remembers the chorus.
It’s safe to say we’d all like to be besties with Flyana Boss.
Verse 4
Verse 4 is a proclamation of financial success.
I I I be Michael Phelps, all the brand deals that I’m swimmin’ in
You can call me Dr. Evil ‘cause I got many men
Invested in this pussy and this shit is paying dividends
Flyana boss uses the metaphor of swimming like olympic swimmer Michael Phelps to emphasize just how many brand deals she has on hand. She then declares that she is receiving gobs of payments. Sounds like Flyana Boss is doing alright for herself.
Chorus & Bridge
And we’re back to the iconic chorus. Truly, no one could ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever be Flyana Boss’ Bobbi Lanea and Folayan Kunerede except Flyana Boss.
