Ojai, California-based music producer MÒZÂMBÎQÚE, otherwise known as Andrew Smith, is set to immerse listeners in a unique sonic experience with his latest EP, “Peril 1998.” Known for his blend of contemporary production and 70’s soul aesthetic, MÒZÂMBÎQÚE, in collaboration with Soft Palace, weaves a musical tapestry that includes hypnotic, atmospheric vocals and lush synth sounds, oscillating between slower tracks and more upbeat house tunes. Developed remotely, the EP is an outcome of the duo’s shared musical passion and an experimental approach: “Let’s do whatever feels good,” as Smith reveals.

We were lucky to land the first glimpse of the music video for “Embrace” which features a retro-color aesthetic that adds a stylized visual to the music that shows a live performance of the track and the interplay between the different vocalists featured in the song. Old-school editing and camera tricks add a nostalgic and familiar accompaniment, the perfect compliment to the music.

“Peril 1998” features a total of five tracks, including three instrumentals and two vocal tracks titled “Resolve” and “Embrace.” The latter contributions see a thrilling collaboration with vocalists The Philharmonik, Destiny Molina, and Pattie Lin, each lending a unique and compelling voice to the dreamy, surreal soundscape that characterizes the EP. “We’re never worried about what genre it is as long as we enjoy it,” shares MÒZÂMBÎQÚE, underlining the EP’s diverse and genre-defying musicality.

In line with MÒZÂMBÎQÚE’s longstanding inspiration drawn from the natural world, a sustainable initiative accompanies the release of “Peril 1998.” For each presave of the EP, one tree was planted, symbolizing the artist’s desire to give back to the muse that continues to inspire his creations.

“Peril 1998” builds on MÒZÂMBÎQÚE’s established discography that includes fan favorites like “Private Island – coldbrew Remix,” “Inner Voice,” and “Just For A Moment,” among others. With an artist name inspired by a formative journey through Africa, and a music style deeply influenced by his experiences in nature, MÒZÂMBÎQÚE continues his musical journey with “Peril 1998,” inviting listeners to join him in a shared, nostalgia-infused musical experience.
