Capricorn’s dance anthem ’20HZ’, originally released on the R&S Records sub-label Global Cuts in 1993, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Dutch multi-instrumentalist Hans Weekhout, the mastermind behind Capricorn, gained significant recognition for this track, having begun his career recording and mixing for international artists like Falco and Ian Gillan. The song, distinguished by its mesmerizing blend of thunderous marching drums, marimba-like melodies, and a trance-inducing atmosphere, charted in Holland, Belgium, the UK, and France upon release. Three decades later, it continues to reverberate in clubs and festivals around the globe.
Support The Remix Package And The Label Here
The lasting influence of ’20HZ’ has prompted R&S Records to commission a collection of remixes to mark its 30th anniversary. The label has recruited various artists to reimagine the classic, each infusing their unique sonic perspective. Among the lineup is Dutch composer and Apollo Records artist Andert Tysma, who transforms ’20HZ’ into a tranquil ambient piece adorned with delicate piano work and sweeping strings. MEANWHILE, Italian DJ and producer Marco Lys preserve the track’s essence while applying a contemporary spin to ignite the dancefloor.
London-based producer Vromm brings his fondness for UK bass and beats culture to his rework, turning the original on its head and reconstructing it over hard-hitting beats. Rounding off the remix package is legendary DJ Carl Cox, whose contributions to the original record’s initial success make his involvement all the more fitting. His rendition dials up the drum work, crafting a big-room monster version that will certainly resonate with audiences worldwide.
