Shaman Durek has a deep connection to house music, dating back to his teenage years. He was drawn to underground gay parties in San Francisco that was influenced by the music coming from Detroit and Chicago. He became involved in the scene, going from working the door to throwing his own parties and helping grow events like the Sunset Parties. As a shaman, his spirituality has been a key part of his career, leading to experiences like showcasing how house music and rhythmic drumming can help people connect with themselves and manifest their desires.
His latest single, “My House,” is a nod to the classic underground house music roots of Detroit and Chicago. The song emphasizes the power of dancing as a way to connect with others and find strength, love, healing, and connection. And to showcase the flavors of House music through Shaman Durkey’s eyes, we invited him on to take over the reins of the playlist as this week’s spotlight artist of the week.
