While Daft Punk was busy racking up the Grammys for Random Access Memories and “Get Lucky”, the interwebs were abuzz, going crazy over Pharrell Williams’ choice of headwear. It hit such a frenzy, by the end of the telecast, the hat even had it’s own twitter account.

It turns out the headpiece, according to Williams, is “a Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat from when she was with Malcolm McLaren.”  He goes on to say “It’s not vintage — I would’ve been really stylin’ if I had one from the ’80s.”

Malcom McLaren wore the cap in the video for “Buffalo Girls”, a classic hip hop song released in 1982 by McLaren and the World’s Famous Supreme Team

The @PharrellHat twitter account has been active since last night.  The account currently has over 16,000 followers and even took a shot at Daft Punk:
