Independent labels spend considerable time introducing new music, but there’s also value in returning to recordings that helped establish their musical identity. A good remix can introduce an existing song to a new audience, highlight musical elements that received less attention in the original arrangement, or show how another producer approaches the same source material.

For smaller labels with an established community of artists, those collaborations can also create new relationships while keeping earlier releases relevant.

Soul Quest Records is exploring that approach with Re Vol.1, the first release in a new remix series dedicated to music from its existing catalog. Founded in Hackney in 2023, the London label has concentrated on deep house, soul, jazz, and broken beat, developing relationships with producers and vocalists who share an interest in instrumental performance and rhythmically detailed electronic music. The new four-track EP brings Kai Alcé, Last Nubian, Wez Whynt, and Sean Green together to revisit songs from Slxm Sol, Sean Green, KingCrowney and Zoe Kypri, and Max Sinàl.

The timing is particularly interesting because Soul Quest has already released several projects we’ve covered at Magnetic Magazine, including Slxm Sol’s Simple Love EP and Max Sinàl’s Healing EP. The original recordings established different aspects of the label’s musical direction, from vocal-led deep house to arrangements influenced by broken beat and jazz.

Re Vol.1 now returns to those recordings with producers who approach rhythm, harmony, and vocals differently, providing another perspective on material that already has a place within the label’s catalog.Earlier this year, we interviewed London duo Real Love Seeker about their contribution to Maintain Altitude 2, discussing the relationship between jazz musicianship, MPC-based production, and the influences associated with London’s underground clubs.

In that interview with Real Love Seeker, the duo discussed how their musical interests extended from UK garage and jazz to dub, disco, and house. They also described how their relationship with Soul Quest developed through London’s club community, rather than by trying to focus exclusively on one genre.

For a label that has operated for about three years, the decision to revisit earlier releases suggests its catalog has reached a point where it has enough material to support a dedicated remix project.

Re Vol.1 Release Details and Availability

Re Vol.1 is listed under catalog number SQR026 and contains four tracks, with a total running time of approximately 25 minutes and 27 seconds. The release is available as a limited 12-inch vinyl edition, with high-quality digital downloads also offered through the label’s Bandcamp page.

The complete tracklist is:

  1. Slxm Sol featuring Laville & BB James, “Simple Love (Kai Alcé NDATL Vocal Mix)”
  2. Sean Green featuring Will Heard, “Really Love (Last Nubian Remix)”
  3. KingCrowney & Zoe Kypri, “Coat On (Wez Whynt Remix)”
  4. Max Sinàl featuring Liv East, “Healing (Sean Green Remix)”

The label announced October 23, 2026, for vinyl and Traxsource availability, followed by wider digital and streaming distribution on November 6. Its Bandcamp listing already offers the four recordings as a digital purchase, alongside the vinyl edition.

For Soul Quest, Re Vol.1 establishes a new series that can continue drawing from the label’s earlier catalog while introducing different producers into its community. The first edition provides a clear indication of the direction, with each remixer bringing a different relationship to house, jazz, soul, and broken beat.

What interests me most about the project is the way the selections relate to releases we’ve already covered over the past year. Rather than introducing four unrelated remixes, Soul Quest is returning to recordings that contributed to its identity and allowing other producers to explore them through different rhythmic and harmonic approaches.

That gives the label another reason to introduce its existing catalog while providing listeners with new interpretations of familiar material. Re Vol.1 is a considered beginning for the series, particularly because the four tracks represent the musical interests that have connected Soul Quest’s artists since its establishment.

The EP is available through Soul Quest Records on Bandcamp, with vinyl and digital purchasing options.
