Empire of the Sun, with openers Midnight Generation and a DJ set from Polo & Pan, took Red Rocks by storm on a perfect August evening with a mind-bending performance for the ages!

Anytime you get the opportunity to go to a show at Red Rocks, you definitely should, and in a spectacular return to the venue, Empire of the Sun brought their epic Ask That God – Afterlife tour to the sold-out venue. Fans were treated to an 18-song set that included hits from every era of the band. Fan favorites like “Changes”, “Cherry Blossom”, We Are The People”, “Walking On A Dream”, and “Alive” were played with the same enthusiasm as when they were new. Luke Steele ran the stage like a seasoned rock star, including multiple costume changes and interactions with two dancers whose choreography was Broadway-worthy.

Seeing Empire of the Sun live is like seeing a Broadway musical, but with visuals that only The Sphere in Las Vegas could rival! Steele stalked the stage with a ferocity that few live acts can compare to. The rest of the band wore monk-like costumes, but were every bit as important to the stage presentation.

Opening band Midnight Generation performed a half-hour set of their brand of Disco/Funk/Soul music that got the crowd in the mood to dance from their opening song. The 5-piece Mexico-based band has one of the most ambitious tour schedules of any band I’ve seen in recent memory. If you don’t know this band yet, you definitely need to get to know them!

Polo & Pan kept the crowd simmering with a French-influenced set of Daytime Disco DJ. The French duo seemed to be having fun with the Red Rocks crowd, and the audience was certainly reciprocating the vibe!
