To celebrate the end of summer, we are revitalizing the Best Progressive House chart that has been dormant for about a year. We wanted to bring back the Progressive House charts to not only highlight some of the smaller up-and-coming artists making some fantastic music but also to highlight some of the megastars and maestros of the genre who have been on an absolute tear this summer.
So, follow the playlist below so that you can have all of these songs concentrated all in one space, updated every month, before diving into the stories, explanations, and my own opinions of the best 15 Progressive House tracks that dropped in August 2024. 👇 👇 👇
Einmusik, Jordan Arts – Echoes
Einmusik is one of the small-time legends in the progressive house scene, an absolutely prolific producer with a massive, massive discography, and every single track included in the discography is inspiring beyond measure.
His latest track with Jordan Arts, Echoes, continues this legacy and easily earns his place on this list.
Edu Schwartz – With Me – Weird Sounding Dude Remix
Weird Sounding Dude made his debut on David Hohme’s Where the Heart is records with his remix of Edu Schwartz’s song With Me.
This track got instant and consistent support from some of the biggest names in the game, including none other than Above and Beyond’s group Therapy, and I’m happy to include it on this list because it really is one of the biggest records of the month, hands down.
Jan Blomqvist, Rodriguez Jr. – Destination Lost – Andrea Oliva Remix
When Jan Blomqvist teamed up with Rodriguez Jr. for their song Destination Lost, I was completely floored by the two sounds coming together. What I love most about these producers is their heavy reliance on acoustic instruments and modular synthesizers. And it’s always a masterclass whenever they make a track.
And so when I saw Andrea Oliva remix it, I had to check it out. And since this song dropped in the middle of August 2024, it’s been on consistent repeat for me, as he brought an even more club-friendly, driving sort of vibe with his remix.
Kasbo – Drift – Joseph Ray Remix
Joseph Ray is an absolute wizard when it comes to really dark, ominous, club-friendly sound design, and his remix of Drift, Kasbo’s latest track, is a continuation of this momentum.
If you’re a producer, Joseph Ray is completely one to study, not only how he’s navigated the industry, moving from one massively popular artist project to another, but also in just how he puts together a track that is far from formulaic, incredibly unique, and just absolutely smashes on the dance floor and pulls at the heartstrings at the same time
Cristoph, Harry Diamond – Hold Me Close
Christoph started as Eric Pridz’s prodigy and has since grown to be a mega heavyweight in his own right in the progressive house scene, and his latest collaboration with Harry Diamond, a track called Hold Me Close, is on par with the rest of his A-tier quality productions that he’s been dropping for the better part of a decade now. You know, this track is driving bright, plucky synths, which are a hallmark of Christoph’s sound, and it’s an absolute must-pick for any DJ spinning the sound this month.
GRIDD – Without You – Ceci Remix
With Progressive House kind of being the de facto popular genre these days, it’s really hard to kind of stand out from the crowd when you’re doing just ambient, texturally heavy club music. But Ceci really breaks the mold with his remix of GRIDD with 2D’s track Without You.
Sure, on the surface it has all the pieces that are kind of following the formula of what a Progressive House song is in 2024, yet the way he puts the elements together, layers the synths, and moves from one section to another creates a phenomenal story that goes beyond club music and really flexes Ceci’s chops as a songwriter. Its a really captivating song that I’ve had on repeat was released at the very beginning of the month.
PRAANA – Zilker Gardens
Colorize has been a leading pioneer label when it comes to the progressive and melodic house scene, and Prana is one of the heavyweight producers on the label. Having only really been making serious, serious impacts in the scene over the past few years, the meteoric rise to megastar in this niche genre of dance music really is a testament to just how phenomenal Prana is in the studio.
Released in the middle of the month, I’ve had these guys’ track on repeat ever since, if anything just for the blissful atmospheres, the soaring delays that they have on there since, and the tight, warm, punchy percussions that make it as club-friendly as it is a wonder to kind of sink into, you know, listening to a couch or headphones or something.
Hernan Cerbello – Outsider
Manual Music has always been one of the best, one of the coolest imprints for curating really underground, masterfully crafted productions. Spearheaded by Paul Hazendonk, who was recently featured in the Organic House tracks with a remix of his own, he is the label co-founder and the one who found Hernan Cerbelo’s track, Outsider.
It’s atmospheric, it’s groovy, it’s nuanced, it’s layered, and it’s everything you really want in an underground progressive track, and easily earns its spot in this.
Durante, HANA – Hot Night – Khen Remix
I’ve been following his music now for many, many years, ever since he was releasing tracks like Goddess and others, and his rise to fame has really been a really fun progression to follow. A recent massive milestone is to have Ken remix his latest collaboration with Hannah, a song called Hot Night. Khen’s classic, iconic, syncopated bassline, incredibly anthemic, underground club-friendly sound, really brings a fresh new twist on Durante’s sound, and is an easy inclusion on this list.
Both Durante, HANA, and Khen are all wizards in the studio, and this is truly a track that is greater than the sum of all of its parts.
WhoMadeWho, Kölsch – Heartless
Two living legends come again once more with their track Heartless, Who Made Who partners with Kölsch to create an absolute dress-it-house banger that is emotional, heart-string-pulling, punchy, warm, and larger than life. Both of these, this group and Kölsch himself, are, again, living legends, and it’s always such a treat to see them continue to to drop new music, let alone drop new music together.
Hernan Cattaneo, Mercurio – Quick Kick
The maestro himself doesn’t drop music very often, but when he does, it is always an A-tier best-in-class production. Hernan Cattaneo teams up with Mercurio on their track Quick Kick, which is really just a heavy-hitting syncopated bassline with different sort of textures, atmospheres, wisps, and washes over the top to keep that groove alive in a way that only Hernan Cattaneo can do. Again, he doesn’t release music very often, so when he does, you gotta sink your ears and teeth into it
Thysma – Hope(less)
Thysma is a South American-based producer who has been really sweating it out in the studio over the past few years, starting releasing on some of the smaller, more underground labels, and slowly but surely working his way up into releasing music on some of the industry-leading labels, championing the progressive house sound in 2024.
His latest track, Hope(less), is a continuation of this legacy, released on ZeroThree, which, again, is a heavy-hitting label in the progressive house world. It’s a testament to that hard work in the studio really does pay off. After many years, Thysma is finally reaping the benefits of having a unique sound, logging the hours in the studio, and really just finding your own path to success here in the progressive house niche of the industry.
Banaati, Dokho, MØØNE – Wildfire
Banaati is an up-and-coming producer with a rare knack for working with some of the most talented smaller vocalists in the game. If you get Banaati on a vocal track, it’s a recipe for magic, and his latest track, Wildfire, is a perfect example of this.
It’s atmospheric, warm, soaring, and it’s no wonder that it’s been picked up and supported by one of the biggest labels championing the sound, MonsterCat/Silk. This is not Banaati’s first release on such a massive label, but it is a continuation of this legacy and a true showcase of the forward momentum that he has been slowly building towards over the past half decade.
Sultan + Shepard, The Kite String Tangle – Memories
Sultan + Shepard are arguably one of the biggest players in the Progressive House world, and everything they touch in the genre seems to turn to gold. Their latest track, Memories, which features the vocals of Kite String Tangle, is just a simple masterclass in production.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Kite String Tangle because, in my early days as a music producer, I entered a remix contest that they were hosting, and while I didn’t win, working on that track for countless amount of hours in the studio ingrained a sense of production-based nostalgia in my ears. Anything they put out takes me back to those earlier days as a producer, and hearing them collaborate with such absolute wizards in the studio, Sultan + Shepard, on their track Memories, is everything I needed this month, and probably a little bit more, too.
Eli & Fur, Hugo Cantarra, Richard Judge – Love Again
Eli & Fur have such a unique sound, and it’s no wonder that they’ve risen to the level of megastars within the world of the [PIAS] Électronique crew and circle. They have drifting ethereal sort of vocals and pounding, club-friendly percussions underneath, and anything they release is headline mainstage-level status while still being that underground, kind of swagger-filled, club-friendly vibe.
Hugo Cantarra and Richard Judge collaborate on their latest track, Love Again, which is an absolute dance-floor weapon. Because of the vocals that Eli & Fur contribute to the track, it becomes super palatable and listenable even when you’re not at a sweaty nightclub at three in the morning.
Will Vance is a professional music producer who has been involved in the industry for the better part of a decade and has been the managing editor at Magnetic Magazine since mid-2022. In that time period, he has published thousands of articles on music production, industry think pieces and educational articles about the music industry. Over the last decade as a professional music producer, Will Vance has also ran multiple successful and highly respected record labels in the industry, including Where The Heart Is Records as well as having launched a new label with a focus on community through Magnetic Magazine. When not running these labels or producing his own music, Vance is likely writing for other top industry sites like Waves or the Hyperbits Masterclass or working on his upcoming book on mindfulness in music production. On the rare chance he's not thinking about music production, he's probably running a game of Dungeons and Dragons with his friends which he has been the dungeon master for for many years.
