Revered UK label BBE is about to reach 500 releases and of course they need to celebrate. They have tasked Louie Vega, Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams to remake the namesake of the label “Barely Breaking Even” from the Universal Robot Band (Burgess and his Logg bandmates Sonny T. Davenport and James J. Calloway).
BBE founder Peter Adarkwah, convinced Vega to get back into the studio with disco producer Patrick Adams and the original writer Burgess and recreate the magic of the original from 1982. The remake has live strings by The Apple Hill String Quartet arranged by Adams and Burgess. During that session, Vega unveiled his “NYC House Mix.” He and Burgess then re-arranged the horns and melody to match the new version.
