Electronic music has no shortage of interviews about upcoming releases, festival appearances, and the next big project an artist is working on, but the conversations that tend to stick with me are the ones that get into the decisions and experiences behind those releases. How someone established their career, which opportunities actually changed things for them, and what they’ve learned about working in the industry can tell you considerably more about an artist than another discussion about their latest single.

Defected Records has returned to that format with the second season of Moments In Music, its interview podcast hosted by Monki. The series launched on October 27 with BLOND, beginning an eight-episode run that will also feature Ewan McVicar, Jaguar, Salomé Le Chat, Smokin Jo, Denis Sulta, Oden & Fatzo, and Poppy Baskcomb. New conversations are scheduled every Tuesday through December 15, with episodes available to watch and listen to on platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.

The new season follows an initial run featuring artists such as MK, Purple Disco Machine, Rudimental, Carl Craig, Sam Divine, Skream, Roger Sanchez, Joseph Capriati, and Josh Baker.

That lineup established a format built around personal experiences, career decisions, and the broader realities of working in electronic music, and Season 2 continues the approach with artists representing different generations and areas of the contemporary house scene.

BLOND Opens Season 2 With Monki

The opening episode features Canadian DJ and producer BLOND, whose career now extends across music production, international touring, label operations, and environmental initiatives. Alongside her releases and performances, she runs the Abracadabra party and music brand and co-founded Bye Bye Plastic, an organization focused on reducing plastic waste within the music industry.

These activities give Monki much more to discuss than the usual recording and touring schedule.

The first conversation, titled The Cure, Natural Blues & Diplo’s House, runs approximately 39 minutes and addresses BLOND’s career, musical influences, creative direction, and upcoming projects. Her recent work includes the album Never Walk Alone, collaborations with artists including Moby, and the developing THE ENERGY TAPES project. Her relationship with Defected also includes the release of “Natural Blues (TECIE),” her collaboration with Moby, Kiko Franco, and Jacob Lusk.

We’ve followed BLOND’s music through several of our regular features, including her appearance in our February 2026 tech house chart. That article also discussed how her activities have expanded beyond releasing and performing music.

The podcast offers an opportunity to hear her address those decisions in a longer conversation rather than through the relatively limited format of a standard artist announcement.

Why These Conversations Are Worth Hearing

What I appreciate about an interview series like Moments In Music is that it creates room for conversations that can be difficult to fit into the usual cycle of release announcements and promotional interviews.

Artists can discuss mistakes, changes in direction, personal experiences, and professional decisions without relating every answer to a particular record. For producers and DJs trying to establish their own careers, hearing how established artists handled those situations can be especially informative.

Monki is also an appropriate host for this format because she’s spent years working as a DJ, producer, and broadcaster. Her experience gives her familiarity with the realities of electronic music careers, from releasing records and performing to developing a professional identity within the industry. The first season demonstrated the potential of that approach through conversations with established names such as Carl Craig and Roger Sanchez alongside artists whose careers developed during later periods of house music.

Season 2 of Moments In Music began on October 27, 2026, and continues with weekly episodes scheduled through December 15. The BLOND conversation is available now, with the remaining guests appearing throughout the season. Listeners can find the series through Defected’s official announcement, watch episodes through the label’s YouTube presence, or subscribe on Apple Podcasts.

For anyone interested in how electronic music careers develop over time, the series offers a chance to hear those experiences directly from the people involved, with conversations that extend beyond their current release schedules.
