From residencies in Switzerland to performances across Europe, Asia and the Americas, Sebastian Konrad has built a career that extends beyond the traditional boundaries of the DJ booth. Rooted in house music and rave culture and shaped by a multidisciplinary outlook, the Swiss born artist is developing an increasingly impressive international presence.
Electronic music careers rarely follow a straight line. For Sebastian Konrad, years spent building from Switzerland’s club scene towards international stages have brought him to a particularly interesting point, with residencies, global performances, growing support for his productions and a wider creative practice spanning fashion and visual culture beginning to converge.
Recent years have seen him move from established residencies within Switzerland to an increasingly international touring schedule, taking in major venues and destinations across Europe, Asia and the Americas. At the same time, his productions have found their way into the sets of Adriatique, Chris Avantgarde, Adam Ten, Julya Karma, Innellea and Josh Gigante. The convergence of international touring, growing recognition as a producer and an increasingly defined multidisciplinary identity makes this a particularly interesting moment in his career.
Born in Basel, Konrad began producing music at 17, initially experimenting with house and deep house before committing more seriously to his craft in 2019. His earliest experiences behind the decks came at parties for teenagers in Switzerland, giving him an unusually early introduction to the relationship between DJ and dancefloor.
His sound has evolved considerably since then. Moving from the lo fi and deep house of his early productions towards a more expansive blend of house, tech house and progressive sounds, Konrad has always resisted being tied too closely to one genre.
“I enjoy blending different genres and taking people on a journey,” he explained in an interview with Numéro Netherlands, describing his approach with a characteristically simple phrase: “I like to call it ‘Sexy Music.'”
At the centre of that philosophy is the dancefloor. Konrad’s music is built around dynamic percussion, hypnotic melodies and atmospheric detail, while his approach to DJing is fundamentally driven by human connection. He prefers to react to the room in real time, adapting to each setting and audience.
“My DJing is fully freestyle,” he says. “It really depends on the setting, the time of day, the crowd, and even the country.”
That adaptability has become increasingly important as his international profile has grown. As a resident at Basel’s Nordstern, one of Switzerland’s best known electronic music institutions, Konrad has developed his craft in an environment that regularly hosts leading international DJs and producers. His association with Naturklang has further connected him with a platform known for staging electronic music events in distinctive locations and building a strong community around contemporary club culture.
From those foundations, his international footprint has steadily expanded. Konrad has performed across Europe, Asia and the Americas, with appearances stretching from Mexico to Bali and Mykonos. In London, he has played Drumsheds, the 15,000 capacity venue that has quickly established itself as one of Europe’s major destinations for large scale electronic music. In Istanbul, he has appeared at Klein Phönix, another fixture on the international club circuit.
Regardless of the scale of the setting, Konrad sees interaction with the crowd as fundamental to his work.
“When I’m playing, the most important thing is interacting with the crowd, looking at people, smiling at them, and taking them on a journey,” he says. “I want them to stay on the dance floor, have a great time, feel excited about what’s coming next, and not want to leave.”
His growing profile as a producer has developed alongside his touring career. Recent productions have attracted support from a notable group of internationally recognised electronic artists, including Adriatique, Chris Avantgarde, Adam Ten, Julya Karma, Innellea and Josh Gigante. Collectively, those names represent several strands of contemporary house and techno, from melodic and progressive sounds to more rhythmically driven club music.
That level of support has placed his music directly into clubs and festivals around the world, connecting it with new audiences and demonstrating its resonance among established artists operating across the international electronic circuit.
Music represents one part of Konrad’s broader creative identity. Having moved to London to study Art Direction, he has developed a wider practice encompassing fashion, design and visual storytelling. His social media presence reflects a carefully considered aesthetic, allowing sound, image and lifestyle to exist as interconnected parts of the same creative world.
“As an artist, you are a brand anyway,” he says of the relationship between these different disciplines. Fashion, in particular, has been part of his life since his teenage years, while his creative work has led to collaborations with international fashion and lifestyle brands, including Pull&Bear.
Konrad’s personal listening habits stretch far beyond electronic music into indie, post punk, rock, soul, disco and jazz, influences that contribute to a broader creative outlook. “I don’t dress like a typical house or techno DJ,” he has said. “I think the unexpected makes it even more interesting.”
That willingness to exist across different creative worlds has become a defining part of Konrad’s trajectory. Residencies at Nordstern and Naturklang have given him strong foundations in Switzerland, while appearances at Drumsheds and Klein Phönix, alongside performances across Mexico, Bali, Mykonos and beyond, point towards an increasingly international career.
For Sebastian Konrad, the different strands of DJing, production, fashion and visual storytelling increasingly feel like parts of the same creative language. His career reflects the changing shape of the modern electronic artist, globally connected, visually aware and fundamentally driven by what happens when music brings people together on a dancefloor.
