WHIPPED CREAM’s HOME WAS ALWAYS ME already had an emotional center when it arrived in April. Caroline Cecil built the album around cinematic dance music, vocals, and big personal themes, while still keeping the project tied to the bass-heavy electronic identity that has followed her for years.
The new HOME WAS ALWAYS ME (Chillhop Remixes) album makes a smart left turn.
Monstercat and Chillhop Music have brought in nine producers to rebuild the album as a lofi instrumental project, giving the original songs a softer and more inward-facing second life without pulling them away from the core writing.

The Remix Album Finds a Natural Middle Point
On paper, WHIPPED CREAM and Chillhop Music may read like different rooms in the same house. In practice, the overlap is clear. WHIPPED CREAM works with scale and emotional release, while Chillhop’s catalog often uses restraint, texture, and repetition to create focus.
That is why this collaboration feels useful. It gives the album another format without treating the remixes like a throwaway bonus package.
The project also marks the first official release between Monstercat and Chillhop Music, giving it a broader label story. Monstercat brings the electronic music audience, while Chillhop brings a producer community that understands how to make quieter music still feel complete.
The Early Singles Show Two Sides of the Project
xander.’s remix of “stranger” arrived on June 18 and acts as one of the heavier entries on the remix album. That choice helps keep a link to the original album’s dance energy, even as the arrangement moves into a calmer instrumental space.
Ward Wills followed on June 25 with a rework of “a different self, not this time.” That version turns the original interlude into a guitar-led piece with its own shape, which is usually where remix projects either work or fall flat. The best ones do not simply lower the tempo. They find a smaller idea inside the original and build around it.
Elsewhere, Leavv reworks “2 u,” while Evil Needle brings his instrumental hip-hop approach to “my mind.” Those names help the record feel like a real Chillhop project rather than a dance album with a lofi filter applied.
WHIPPED CREAM’s Album Was Already Built Around Feeling
The remix album works because HOME WAS ALWAYS ME was already built around personal writing and vocal identity. Cecil’s debut album drew attention from Spotify’s RADAR Canada and Apple Music Canada’s Up Next program, with “stranger” reaching Spotify’s Viral Top 50 charts in the U.S. and Canada.
That wider push matters, because a lofi remix album gives new listeners a lower-pressure way into the same material. Someone may find these versions through study playlists, late-night listening, or Chillhop’s audience first, then move back into the original album.
That emotional through-line was already part of the article I wrote on WHIPPED CREAM’s “never mine” and her approach to vulnerability and obsession. This remix album extends that same side of her work through a different production setting.
