P.F. Flyers has teamed up with Philadelphia-based designer Saeed Ferguson for a limited-edition take on the Grounder Low-Top, launching May 16 for $125. The collaboration pulls direct inspiration from Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia, a place known for its wooded trails, wetland terrain, and frog-filled ecosystem.

That source material gives the shoe its strongest hook. The upper uses a mottled brown frog-skin canvas pattern, accented by orange stitching, a P.F. frog illustrated tag, and a side embroidery that reads “Stay grounded in nature.” It is a specific concept that helps the shoe avoid feeling like another heritage sneaker with a seasonal colorway slapped on top.

The Grounder itself provides a useful foundation for the collaboration.

Originally rooted in P.F. Flyers’ 1940s all-terrain design language, the silhouette features a ribbed toe bumper, rubber toe cap, gum-rubber outsole, and lugged tread pattern. That construction gives the shoe a little more outdoor character than a standard canvas low-top, while still keeping the shape easy enough for daily wear.

P.F. Flyers Grounder By Saeed Ferguson

What makes this release work is the way Ferguson’s design language sits inside the P.F. Flyers archive without overwhelming it. The frog-canvas upper adds personality, the orange details give the shoe a clear visual point of contrast, and the brown waxed cotton laces let the design stay closer to the trail-inspired source.

The second lace option, in orange, gives wearers the chance to push the shoe into a louder place if they want it. That is a smart detail because the design can read two different ways. With brown laces, it feels grounded and wearable. With orange laces, it leans further into the collaboration’s playful side.

The custom tissue paper also extends the concept into the packaging, referencing the wetland ecosystem of Wissahickon Valley Park. It is a small detail, though small details are usually where limited collaborations either feel considered or rushed.

A Heritage Sneaker With Outdoor Character

The Grounder by Saeed Ferguson also keeps P.F. Flyers’ comfort story in view. The shoe includes the brand’s Posture Foundation Magic Foam Insole, complete with frog-foot imprints, tying the collaboration’s visual theme back to the part of the shoe people actually feel every time they wear it.

That matters because a sneaker like this needs to be wearable beyond the launch-day photos. The rubber toe cap adds structure, the gum outsole gives traction, and the canvas build keeps the shoe familiar. It feels like a release made for people who want a sneaker with a story, though still expect it to work with denim, workwear, relaxed outdoor layers, or a basic summer uniform.

Ferguson’s background as an artist, photographer, and fashion designer also gives the collaboration a clear point of view. His work often leans into message, optimism, and visual identity, and this shoe carries that through without becoming overly precious.

For P.F. Flyers, the Grounder by Saeed Ferguson Low-Top is a clean way to connect heritage design with a more personal, place-driven collaboration. It has the archive shape, the outdoor reference, and enough visual detail to make the release feel specific.
