TRE’s new single “Kinetic” just dropped today on Sommersville Records, and the title says a lot about what he is aiming for right now. The track is built around evolving synth work and a driving bassline, with the central idea tied to motion, resilience, and the refusal to stall out. That framing fits where he seems to be as an artist at this point, because the record is being positioned as a clearer statement of who TRE is becoming, sonically and emotionally.

That shift also lines up with what is already in motion around him.

He is set to play ONE Festival this month alongside artists including Romain Garcia and My Friend, and the single arrives as part of a wider run of steady growth around his profile as a producer and DJ. He’s a Kolkata-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ whose work blends organic textures, synths, and live instrumentation, with releases across labels including Monstercat, Sekora, Enormous Tunes, and Find Your Harmony who has amassed over 4 million Spotify streams, more than 60,000 YouTube plays, and a 2024 Indian Music Diaries Awards nomination for Best Electronic Artist of the Year. Impressive feats to say the least!

What makes this conversation useful is that TRE is not talking about performance in abstract terms. He gets specific about presence, preparation, honesty, and the point where a set stops feeling controlled and starts feeling alive. That connects well with a track like “Kinetic,” because the release is framed around forward motion, and his answers show how that same idea carries into the booth, into the studio, and into the way he is shaping his identity now.

Interview With TRE

What helps you stay present behind the decks, especially when distractions are everywhere?

I prepare my sets with a clear direction in mind, but I don’t keep them rigid. For shows, I like having a foundation, and for longer sets I often end up jamming and letting things flow in the moment.

I consider the venue and time slot, but I let the crowd guide how the journey unfolds. That balance between preparation and spontaneity is what helps me stay present and connected behind the decks.

Have you ever had a night where your mindset or values completely changed how things played out?

Absolutely.

When I first started DJing with a producer’s mindset, I was overthinking almost everything. One night I tried to memorise every track, transition, and cue point, and I realised I wasn’t enjoying it. When a DJ doesn’t enjoy what he plays, the energy reflects in the crowd. That night taught me that honesty connects deeper than control ever will.

How do your personal values show up in the way you play, connect, or move through the scene?

To me, trends and fitting into a certain genre have never been part of my journey. I love music irrespective of labels, and my experience producing across different genres over the years allows me to approach my sets with deeper storytelling and emotional connection.

I value authenticity over expectation, and that helps.

What does presence look like off the decks, in the way you carry yourself in the community?

Off the decks, presence to me means being approachable and supportive within the community. I believe in building genuine relationships, not transactional ones.

That’s one of the reasons I started KÏNETIC, to support other artists and create space for guest mixes and new voices. Whether it’s sharing knowledge, showing up for others, or simply respecting the culture, how you move off stage matters as much.

Do you think values and integrity still matter when algorithms reward other things? Why or why not?

Algorithms often reward speed and trends, but I don’t think that replaces values.

Integrity might not always give instant results, but it builds something deeper and more sustainable. I’d rather grow slowly with authenticity than chase short-term visibility that doesn’t reflect who I am as an artist.

What kind of energy or attitude do you try to bring into each gig, and why does it matter to you?

I really try to be myself and genuinely enjoy every song I play in my sets. I learn something from every single gig, and I carry that energy back into the studio to create music that truly resonates.

For me, that cycle of playing, learning, and creating is what keeps everything authentic.
