After a brief but intentional pause, Nicewon Recordings is back with a new compilation that feels like rediscovering a forgotten 12-inch in a record bag a record that still has the power to shake a sound system.
The Minneapolis-based label, run by Jeff Swiff and Christian James, has spent the last two years quietly recalibrating, moving both behind the decks and across dancefloors, refining its sense of direction. The result is a carefully assembled eight-track release that reaffirms everything that made Nicewon stand out in the first place. It’s out now exclusively on Bandcamp and Traxsource and gearing up for a full release on December 26th.

This new collection draws together contributions from a strong lineup of producers: Last Nubian, Joint4Nine, JR From Dallas, Jeff Swiff, Donnie Moustaki, Ugly Frankie, Christian James, and J. Fenix. Each artist approaches deep house from a slightly different angle, yet the compilation holds together with clear purpose. There are deep, textured cuts built for warm-up moments; loose, swinging late-night tracks shaped by classic house rhythms; and a healthy dose of raw Midwestern grit. The selections highlight the label’s commitment to soulful, unpolished house music – a package of tracks that favor warmth, personality, and human touch over sheen.

Nicewon’s identity has always been tied to the “No Coast” sound, a regional aesthetic built not on geography but on attitude: grounded, rhythmic, and unpretentious. This compilation serves as both a celebration of that lineage and a reminder of the label’s steady vision. Swiff and James have long focused on the fuller, heavier end of house – pushing forth music with bounce, weight, and unmistakable groove. Here, they deliver exactly that, while showing how varied and expressive those ideas can be.

In many ways, this release reads like a message to dedicated listeners and dancers: Nicewon hasn’t gone anywhere. The sound is still evolving, still rooted in soul, and still built for those who appreciate house music with depth, warmth, and movement. This is definitely a nice one.
