Above Image C/O: Coiro

“Bloom” was the track that first pulled me into Coiro’s world, but once I dug into Are We Awake, the full picture came into focus. Released through Ki Records, this four-track collaboration with Can Aydin finds both producers working at the intersection of organic rhythm and electronic precision.

There’s a weight to it that feels lived in, shaped by the natural patterns Coiro references in his own work. Every sound feels positioned with intention, from the fluid, rolling low end to the percussive textures that seem to breathe within the mix.

A Record That Breathes With Intention

“Bloom” in particular stands out for its low, chugging groove that moves like a slow current under bright, mallet-like tones. The contrast between its heavy bass foundation and the light melodic elements gives the track an energy that feels both grounded and forward-moving.

It’s hypnotic, but never static. You can hear the influence of natural rhythm and space in how the arrangement evolves—steady, patient, and human.

The rest of the EP carries this same pulse. “Another Day” opens with subtle percussion and a restrained melody that feels almost meditative, while “Movement” pushes closer to a late-night techno setting with sharper edges and more direct energy. The closing track, “Are We Awake,” ties everything together through a sense of reflection, as if the whole record was designed to mirror the flow of a single day.

Coiro’s background growing up in São Paulo shapes this sound as much as his connection to nature does. The tension between the city’s density and his pull toward calm textures runs through his production style. You can hear that balance everywhere on Are We Awake. Each track is engineered with care, textured in a way that gives every sound space to exist without feeling sparse. It’s an EP that feels aware of its environment—one that builds atmosphere through rhythm, tone, and restraint rather than volume or flash.
