ADOT has unveiled the ONI-100, a new fibre optic network isolation device that delivers the company’s optical technology in a single, compact unit designed for systems using only RJ45 Ethernet connections. The release expands ADOT’s lineup, which includes the well-known MC-01 and MC-02 models originally designed for switches with SFP ports such as the Melco / DELA S100 and S1.
Optical Isolation for Any Network Setup
The ONI-100 provides full optical isolation between a home network and audio system, eliminating electrical noise that travels through standard Ethernet wiring. Unlike earlier dual-media converter kits that required separate boxes, the ONI-100 handles conversion from copper to optical and back within one device. This makes it suitable for setups that connect directly to a router or any switch without SFP ports.
Installation is straightforward. The residential network cable is unplugged from the audio device and connected to the ONI-100 instead. A high-quality Ethernet cable then links the ONI-100 to the audio component, ensuring the data remains isolated from unwanted interference.
Design and Technical Details
The ONI-100 shares the same core optical technology as the MC-02 Dual, delivering equivalent performance with a smaller footprint. It ships with a standard linear plug-top power supply and can be upgraded to a low-noise linear power supply for improved performance.
Attention to detail includes a chassis grounding post to define ground when connected to other IT hardware without a reference, vibration-damping feet, and flexible mounting options. The unit can be used freestanding, attached to a DIN rail, or rack-mounted using the included mini-rack ears.
Designer Alan Ainslie explains that ADOT’s focus has long been on reducing electrical noise in audio networks. “Noise and interference are obvious in analogue systems, but their effect on digital audio can be just as significant,” he says. “With ONI-100, we address one of the main entry points of noise — the Ethernet cable — and apply our fibre optic isolation approach to systems that rely entirely on RJ45 connections. The improvement is immediate.”
