It’s been six years since Bon Iver released an album, but the wait is almost over. On April 11, Justin Vernon and his ever-evolving project will drop SABLE, fABLE, a record that blends emotional storytelling with radiant pop production. This isn’t just another Bon Iver album—it’s a shift in perspective, a journey from solitude to connection.
The album builds off SABLE,, the three-song EP Vernon released last fall. While that project sat in the weight of past pain, fABLE steps into the light. Together, SABLE, fABLE tells a story of transformation—of sadness turning into unfiltered joy, of one becoming two, of the past making way for something new.
And fans won’t have to wait long for their first taste. On February 14, Bon Iver will release “Everything Is Peaceful Love,” the album’s first single, complete with a music video shot and edited by John Wilson (How To with John Wilson).

Bon Iver’s Big Update At a Glance
- New Bon Iver album, ‘SABLE, fABLE,’ drops April 11 on Jagjaguwar.
- Lead single “Everything Is Peaceful Love” arrives February 14 with a John Wilson-directed music video.
- Justin Vernon describes the album as a love story moving from pain to joy.
The Story Behind ‘SABLE, fABLE’

Like much of Bon Iver’s music, SABLE, fABLE was shaped by its setting. The album came to life at April Base, Vernon’s Wisconsin studio, which had been sitting dormant during renovations. The creative spark hit on 2.22.22, when producer Jim-E Stack and Danielle Haim found themselves snowed in at the studio. That impromptu session led to “If Only I Could Wait,” a duet about the struggle of becoming the best version of yourself in a relationship.
Produced by Vernon and Stack, the album moves through different shades of love—infatuation, longing, self-reflection, and commitment. It strips back the layered, experimental sounds of 22, A Million and i,i, opting instead for raw honesty.
“This isn’t a fairy tale,” Vernon suggests. Even with love comes the echoes of past pain. SABLE, fABLE acknowledges that, weaving lessons into each track. Vernon describes fABLE as finding the rhythm of selflessness—learning to move in sync with someone else, with patience and trust.
What’s Next for Bon Iver?
Beyond the album release, Vernon has more in store. On February 21, he’ll sit down with Krista Tippett (On Being) for an in-depth conversation about music and healing. The discussion, part of the annual On Air Fest in Brooklyn, will stream live via KCRW and later be available through On Being.
For now, fans can pre-order SABLE, fABLE and gear up for the release of “Everything Is Peaceful Love” on February 14. If SABLE was about looking back, fABLE is about what comes next—and for Bon Iver, that future looks brighter than ever.
