Gifted DJ-producer hybrid longstoryshort has taken his sound to new depths with IN MY MIND EP, his latest EP on Insomniac’s label, NIGHTMODE RECORDS. This project delves into contrasts—both in music and emotion—highlighting a blend of intense bass, UK garage rhythms, and softer melodic touches that resonate with listeners on multiple levels. As a whole, the EP showcases his ability to balance the high-energy elements of electronic music with a more introspective, reflective sound.
The IN MY MIND EP starts with “INTRO (DARK MODE),” an intro that immediately pulls listeners into a haunting atmosphere, setting the stage for the energy that follows. The title track, “IN MY MIND,” kicks up the momentum, bringing in layered synths and vocal loops that build into a drop driven by powerful basslines. This mix of gritty, rhythmic layers makes “IN MY MIND” a standout moment on the EP, capturing the artist’s signature sound that can ignite any dance floor. It is proceeded by “IJUSTWANNA,” a rollercoaster ride of UKG and bass house featuring SPORTMODE.
In a compelling change of pace, IN MY MIND EP uses “interlude (light mode),” designed as a transitional moment. It bridges the more hard-hitting opening tracks with the second half of the EP, where longstoryshort turns to softer soundscapes and melodic lines. Discussing the EP’s intent, longstoryshort shared that it represents his high-energy side as well as his more emotional, introspective side: “‘IN MY MIND EP’ is a journey through the dual sides of my music and personal experiences. ‘Dark Mode’ [first half] brings out that raw, heavy-energy side of me that leans into harder sounds and unfiltered intensity, while ‘Light Mode’ [second half] explores a softer, emotional side, giving space to reflect and feel. Together, they offer a full view into my world, and I hope listeners connect with these tracks as a soundtrack to their own highs, lows, and everything in between.”
Having recently released standout singles and remixes, including collaborations with major artists and a sold-out headlining show, longstoryshort is positioned for a big year. Raised in upstate New York, I was always a big fan of music but never really listened to electronic music. Within the first month of attending Florida State University and meeting some new friends, I was introduced to the rave scene. After seeing Ekali at my first show, I was instantly hooked. Since then, I have dived into every subgenre of electronic music, picked up DJing, and mixed for clubs and different entertainment events in Tallahassee. Once graduating with degrees in marketing and hospitality, I was hired for a sales position. However, I recently decided to leave my sales job to pursue my dream of working in the music industry. Currently, I run Magnetic Magazine's Melodic Techno Charts, along with my role as a PR and marketing specialist for different artists and labels. Some of my favorite artists are REZZ, Kyle Watson, TOBEHONEST, San Pacho, Josh Baker, HUGEL, ARTBAT, Vintage Culture, Ganja White Night, CamelPhat, Green Velvet, Jungle, Milky Chance, Paco Versailles, Franc Moody, and RÜFUS DU SOL. My favorite festivals are Hulaween (by far), EDC Orlando, and all the different venues during Miami Music Week. Outside of music, I love sports (especially hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, and spike ball), going to the movies, working out, sushi, Chick-fil-A, food in general, and hanging with my dog Maui and my cat Loki.
